Oracle Releases the First ''Closed-Loop'' BI System with OBIEE 11g

BICG supports Oracle's release of OBIEE 11g, the most integrated and complete BI
suite on the market.
London, England, July 09, 2010 -- Oracle has released its latest business intell
igence product with OBIEE 11g, claiming it to be the most integrated and complet
e suite on the market. Oracle believes this is a step forward from other BI plat
forms on the market, particularly offerings from the likes of SAP.
The much awaited unveiling took place at an event led by the Oracle President, C
harles Phillips, in London on July 7th.
"Our BI strategy has been evolving for years; for any company that starts as a d
atabase company that's not a surprise. We want to capture information securely a
nd present it in an accurate way to the consumers of that data. We've taken the
idea of an integrated suite and applied it to BI," said Phillips.
Oracle Business Intelligence 11g is said to be the first BI product on the marke
t to provide a unified environment for accessing and analysing data that resides
in relational, OLAP, and XML data sources.
The latest version of Oracle's Business Intelligence platform. allows for the ex
traction of information from Oracle products as well as third-party sources into
a single user interface. Users are empowered to customize the the visual repres
entation of the data with graphs and charts being updated in real-time. Map visu
alizations linked to spatial data is another noteable feature in the new release
.
"There are a lot of ways to extract information out of systems," Phillips contin
ued, "but you need that information to be consistent; you need to define data el
ements in the same way. Business intelligence is not BI if you get five differen
t answers to one question. It's not just the ability to extract data from a sing
le source; you want it to be consistent and defined the same way across all sour
ces and all applications."
Oracle has also introduced a deep integration with it's Oracle Enterprise Manage
r 11g. System administrators can manage and monitor BI performance from the same
environment used to manage their entire IT stack.
"The old way was to have the transaction system and you would dump those transac
tions into a separate system in a data warehouse, do some analysis, make a decis
ion and then figure out what to do from there. Those things were completely disc
onnected. This is the first closed-loop BI system." Phillips said.
