 In just a year, Philadelphia has gone from 0-60 in opportunities for people seeking training in greencareers, but the economy has failed to rebound with the same fervor. However, in the past six monthswe've read about several new loan products and rebates for Philadelphia businesses, includingGreenWorks Loan Fund and Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grants. The Green Economy TaskForce Funding Committee invited several guest speakers to brief us on what's available, what needspromoting, challenges faced, and strategy for maximizing these investments. Speakers fromPhiladelphia's Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning & Economic Development, The ReinvestmentFund, and the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation have been confirmed.The Green Economy Task Force Funding Committee would like to invite you to attend a discussion onnew business loans and rebates for green businesses and greening business.  Business United for Conservation (BUC) Industry Partnership willrelease the business needs assessment "Capturing the Storm:Profits, Jobs, and Training in Philadelphia's StormwaterManagement Industry" at the Center for Architecture on July 22,2010.SBN is pleased to announce to our Green Economy Task Forcestakeholders the release of BUC Industry Partnership's report onthe green stormwater management industry. "Capturing the Storm"is filled with insights and challenges from the business communitythat will better prepare companies and the organizations thatsupport them for the future. Philadelphia Launches Program to Help LocalCompanies Launch New Green Technologies
 "The City of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia IndustrialDevelopment Corporation, in partnership with the Ben FranklinTechnology Partners are launching an innovative new pilot programdesigned to help Philadelphia companies with cutting edge energyefficiency technologies develop a market for their products. TheGreenworks Pilot Energy Technology (G-PET) Program offersgrants to Philadelphia companies to accelerate the introduction oftheir new, energy efficient products and services to themarketplace. G-PET is being funded with $430,000 of federalEnergy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant funding under theAmerican Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to the City ofPhiladelphia."Click here to read the full press release. 
 
PA Announces Recipients of Green AGA Funding
 On June 4th, the State Department of Labor and Industryannounced they have decided to 8 of the 39 applications for theGreen AGA grants for the State Energy Sector Program. Thefollowing organizations in Southeastern PA received funding:Bucks County Community College's
PA Veterans Green Jobs Training 
program was awarded $ 315,000People for People's Green Jobs Training program wasawarded $300,000L & I also mentioned that there will be a second Green AGA inAugust/September. The fund available for that AGA is $ 1.7 milliondollars.
Department of Energy Seeks Input on Wind EnergyWorkforce Development Roadmap
 
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has issued a Request ForInformation (RFI) to gain public input on the development of a WindEnergy Workforce Roadmap, which will provide details on thecurrent workforce landscape in the wind industry as well as futuresteps necessary to train and develop a green workforce for thesector.The purpose of the Roadmap is to establish the policy objectivesand overall direction that workforce development efforts throughoutthe wind industry should assume as it moves forward. This RFIprovides leaders from academia, industry, and government with theopportunity to provide insight and guidance to DOE as the nationramps up its wind energy production. A draft Roadmap documenthas been developed, and the public may provide comments on theinitial draft or may provide alternative or additional viewpoints.Click here to read the full story.

Boston to Become 1st Large American City toConduct Infrared Scan
 
"Following a meeting with almost a dozen chief executive officers ofBoston's growing Cleantech Industry, Mayor Thomas M. Meninoannounced that the City is releasing a Request for Proposals (RFP)for Boston's first ever infrared scan. This innovative scan will allowthe City to identify heat loss from buildings, which costs residentsand businesses millions of dollars. The scan will provide the Citywith the necessary data to enhance awareness of this loss anddrive greater adoption and enrollment in existing utility sponsoredenergy efficiency programs, a key goal identified by the Mayor'sClimate Change Leadership Committee and enshrined in the City's
