STATEMENT BY ASSEMBLYMAN NELSON CASTRO

I regret that circumstances compel me to go public about a very personal matter-the state of my marriage. The
woman I once called my soul-mate, has filed for divorce after a period of separation. Regrettably, the strain of
public life and constant traveling between Albany and my district has taken a toll on my 11 month marriage and
efforts to salvage the relationship have proven unsuccessful.

I am now being forced to defend my character and answer questions about all aspects of my personal life
against outrageous allegations with no foundation in fact.

I will be fully cooperating with all court proceedings with the determination that Mishelle and I can end our
marriage with dignity and go on with our lives.

I intend to carry on my responsibilities to the people of 86th Assembly District while addressing the real issues
that confront our community. I look forward to a constructive debate with my opponent on the substantive
concerns that we face in our daily lives rather than having to respond to mistruths and outright lies that have
characterized my opponents’ tactics in the past and which only distract attention from the real challenges
confronting us.
