PROJECT TITLE: The DecisionGENRE: Rites of PassageDATE: July 9, 2010Logline: A 25-year-old basketball superstar can choose forthe first time in his life where he would like to play but must consider the livelihoods and economies that depend onhis decision.

Opening Image (1)
November 2008. New York’s Madison Square Garden. Whenasked by a reporter at mid-court about his free agencyplans, LeBron James answers, "July 1, 2010, is going to be abig day."2.
 
Theme Stated (5)
Leading up to the big decision, LeBron consults his motherfor advice. She tells him, “You have to do what makes youhappy because at the end of the day no one has to live withthe consequences of your actions except you.”

Set-up (1 – 10)
A recognized phenom on the court, Lebron was ushered on tothe highest-level teams since his early teens. After asuccessful high school career, LeBron joined the 2003 NBA draft where the Cleveland Cavaliers took him number oneoverall; a hometown boy who joined the hometown team andbecame a hometown hero. But after 7 years the 18-year-old
 
boy became a 25-year-old man and still no championships cameto Cleveland. After a series of unsuccessful playoff runsand high-profile free agency signings, the Cavaliers andLeBron James, it seemed, hit a wall.4.

passes. The Cavaliers attempt to woo their coveted star with a cartoon parody of “Family Guy.”9.
 
Midpoint (55)
The free agency chips begin to land. Dirk’s staying inDallas. Durant’s in OK City. Amare’s in NY and Boozer’s inChicago. Bosh and Wade both announce Miami. LeBron is theonly hold out.10.
 
Bad Guys Close In (55 – 75)
James will announce his decision on a one-hour ESPN specialcalled “The Decision,” reminiscent of President JosiahBartlett’s infamous sit-down in which he discloses he hasM.S. and considers if he will seek re-election on the WestWing Season 1 finale. ESPN, host of the coveted one-on-one,airs an OTL roundtable where sports writers such as JackieMcMullen and Kevin Blackistone lament LeBron’s narcissisticchoice of a one hour special dedicated to himself andindulgent handling of the spotlight during the off-season.Popular belief is LeBron has chosen against Cleveland and will slap 5 cities in the face on national TV. Chronicdyspeptic Skip Bayless rechristens King James as thepetulant Prince.11.
 
All is Lost (75)
James’ heavily managed image goes from the Celebrated ChosenOne who single-handedly revitalized a Cleveland franchise toa media pariah bent on lime-light and deluded by ego.12.
