As part of its remit the NCPE is requiredto develop policing doctrine including guidance in consultation with ACPO, the Home Office andthe Police Service. Guidance produced by the NCPE should be used by chief officers to shapepolice responses to ensure that missing persons, those close to them and the general publicexperience consistent levels of service. The implementation of all guidance will require operationalchoices to be made at a local level in order to achieve the appropriate police response.
