Why people don’t read and study the Bible

1. The Bible doesn't seem relevant to my life

2. The Bible is confusing and hard to understand

3. I end up always feeling guilty when I read the Bible

4. I rely on my pastors and leadership to teach me what the

Bible says

5. The Bible is boring to me

Why people don’t read and study the Bible

6. My life is hectic and I simply don't have time to read the

Bible

7. The Bible is full of contradictions and therefore lacks

credibility

8. I don't read period, not just the Bible but I don't read
anything
Quote from Buck Hatch

What is more important to man than God? He is

everything. To know God is the primary, pre‑eminent
pursuit of any human.

And how is he, man, to study, to know God? God has shut
Himself up, as it were, or limited Himself in His revelation
to mankind through the channel of the written Word of
God ‑ The Bible.

This is the only authentic, true text to which we may turn.

Anything God has of Himself or His blessings comes from
Himself immediately, directly, and only to a human being
through this book, God's Word.
Consequently, to know God is to know the Bible; to know
the Bible is to know God. If God is all important, then His
Word is all important. In other words, The Word of God is
as important as God Himself. As far as mankind is
concerned, this is true.

A hunger for God will mean, must mean, a hunger for the
Word of God. Therefore, one must immediately realize if
God's Word is as important as God Himself (for by it we
can know and understand God), then how we interpret
God's Word is just as important as God's Word. We must
know exactly what it says so that we may know exactly
what God says!

This is where Biblical Hermeneutics plays its important role.

1. Border of the jigsaw puzzle = Bible Doctrine

any particular topic or subject
Unity of Scripture
2. The boxtop of the jigsaw puzzle = Bible Plan
The Bible Plan is the unfolding and progressive
redemption of mankind by God.
During the next few weeks prior to our August 22 launch we
are going to be studying the unfolding and redemption of
mankind by God. The goals of this introduction are to:

1. Survey the key events in redemptive history,

memorize the nine dates in Israel's history

For example:
Creation and the covenant with Adam
The call of Abraham - Genesis 12
Mosaic covenant - Exodus
The king that God established under Samuel
Homework assignment

Memorize the following key dates in Israel's redemptive

history:

1. The call of Abraham in 2091 BC

2. The Exodus 1446 BC
3. When David begins to reign 1010 BC
4. Solomon begins his reign 970 BC
5. The kingdom divides 931 BC

8. The fall of Jerusalem 586 BC
9. Captivity of Israel 605-538 BC

2. Show how the OT points to its fulfillment in Christ
Luke 24:27 Then beginning with Moses and with all the
prophets, He explained to them the things concerning
Himself in all the Scriptures.
John 5:39
You search the Scriptures because you think that in them
you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about
me,

3. Give us a hermeneutical grid for reading the Bible

Apart from the hermeneutical grid we can't understand the
meaning of the text
The redemptive plan of the Bible

I. The kingdom offered (Genesis 1-2)

II. The kingdom promised (Genesis 3-50)

III. The kingdom pre-figured (Exodus - Malachi)

IV. The kingdom inaugurated (Matthew - Jude)

V. The kingdom consummated (Revelation)
