 Northside PRIDE
This year we willhave two PRIDE Fest-ivals in Cincinnati!energy to keep theirheads above water inthe game of life, itseems like a dauntingtask to organize theCincinnati GLBTPRIDE Festival.A big part of makingthe festival happen iscontinue to celebrateour growing sence of equality in Northside,Cincinnatis largestGayborhood where ithas been shown forthe last decade. We dont agree withthose who are angryabout the changebecause being angryabout the move onlycauses division andtension within ourown already strug-gling community. Weencourage everyone toembrace the festivaldowntown and enjoythe new scenery for agreat big Gay party! The more PRIDE themerrier. I wouldrather have PRIDEday every day, ormaybe we can start bygrowing our PRIDEand having twoPRIDE Festivals!
Why a NothsidePRIDE Fest?
Whats so greatabout a NorthsidePRIDE Festival, andwhy do we need tomake sure that wedont ever leave Northside out of theloop? Well, Northsideis the biggestGayborhood in Cincy.Within a single squaremile known as theheart of Northsidewhich radiates fromHoffner Park we havea collective of fivegay bars and clubs, and several GLBTowned or operatedbusinesses. We alsoboast the GLBTCommunity Centerright in the middle of the com-munity.Thiscollection of GLBTbusinesses is not theonly reason Northsideis consideredCincinnatis biggestGayborhood, North-side also has manyGLBT residents, andGLBT home ownerswho have settleddown here because wefeel comfortable to beourselves and be outno matter what oursexual orentation maybe. This type of neigh-borhood, theGayborhood, is a veryimportant part of abigger picture, andimportant to Cincin-nati because havingthis Gayborhoodmeans that we are onestep ahead of lots of other cities that cantboast the same growthin a grounded actual-ization of living inequality.Having aGayborhood in thiscity means that Gaypeople who commutehere to work, movehere from other cities, and end up in Cincin-nati for unexpectedreasons have a placeto go where they canmeet other peoplethey can depend on

Maybe youhave alreadyheard that therewill be aPRIDE Festi- val in North-side this Au-gust and youare wondering whythe Northside PRIDEFestival didnt takeplace in June duringPRIDE Month like ithas for the last 10 years.The answer isbecause it takes a lotof energy to put on aPRIDE Festival, andthe organizers whoput the festival on in Northside for the last10 years were ready topass the torch alongafter plenty of years of hard work. Most of their workto make the festivalwhat it was during thelast decade was doneon volunteer time bythe lead organizers. This means that evenmore energy is re-quired to plan andorganize the festival. With a slow economyand most averageamericans alreadyputting out extracoming up withthe funding, since it is com-pletely privatelyfunded. As Iunderstand itattendance at thePRIDE Fest in
Wells
Northside has reached20,000 visitors duringthe three day weekendand the expense havereached around 12 to16 thousand dollarsper year to operate thefestival. This mightexplain whey thebaton was passedalong to the GayChamber of Com-merce. This is just aregular part of theever changing PRIDEassemblage in Cincin-nati.With this changetaking place, and thesehard times apon us, Iremember that whentimes are tought westand strong and workharder to encouragean even greater voiceof Prideful reason. Wewill be glad to showour cheer and shareour spirit of Gay OutComings at the Equi-nox Festival down-town, and we will also
