Joshua 1-24Rendered into E-Prime by Dr. David F. Maas
God's Charge to Joshua
1
Now it came about after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, thatthe LORD spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses'
[a]
servant, saying,
2
"Moses
(A)
My servant has died; now therefore arise,
(B)
cross this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I will give to them, to the sons of Israel.
3
"
(C)
Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, I have given it to you, just as I spoke to Moses.
4
"
(D)
From the wilderness and this Lebanon, even as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and as far as the Great Seatoward the setting of the sun will belong to you as your territory.
5
"
(E)
No man will have the capability to stand before you all the days of yourlife Just as I have accompanied Moses, I will accompany you;
(F)
I will not failyou or forsake you.
6
" Remain strong and courageous, for you shall give this people possessionof the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.
7
"Only remain strong and very courageous; take care to do according toall the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it tothe right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go.
8
"
(I)
This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shallmeditate on it day and night, so that you may take care to do according toall that you find written in it;
(J)
for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.
9
"Have I not commanded you? Remain strong and courageous!
(L)
Do nottremble or feel dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever yougo."
Joshua Assumes Command
10
Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,

11
"Pass through the midst of the camp and command the people, saying,'Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within
(M)
three days you will cross thisJordan, to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God will give you,to possess it.'"
12(N)
To the Reubenites and to the Gadites and to the half-tribe of Manasseh,Joshua said,
13
"Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commandedyou, saying, '
(O)
The LORD your God gives you rest and will give you thisland.'
14
"Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle shall remain in the landwhich Moses gave you beyond the Jordan, but you shall cross before yourbrothers in battle array, all your valiant warriors, and shall help them,
15
until the LORD gives your brothers rest, as He gives you, and they alsopossess the land which the LORD your God gives them.
(P)
Then you shallreturn to your own land, and possess that which Moses
(Q)
the servant of theLORD gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise."
16
They answered Joshua, saying, "All that you have commanded us we willdo, and wherever you send us we will go.
17
"Just as we obeyed Moses in all things, so we will obey you; only
(R)
maythe LORD your God dwell with you as He dwelled with Moses.
18
"Anyone who rebels against your command and does not obey your wordsin all that you command him, shall receive the death penalty; only remainstrong and courageous."
Joshua 2NASB E-Prime DFM
Rahab Shelters Spies
1
Then Joshua the son of Nun sent two men as spies secretly from
(A)
Shittim, saying, "Go, view the land, especially Jericho " So they went and came intothe house of
(B)
a harlot who had the name of Rahab, and lodged there.
2
Messengers told the king of Jericho, saying, "Behold, men from the sons of Israel have come here tonight to search out the land."

3
And the king of Jericho sent word to Rahab, saying, "Bring out the menwho have come to you, who have entered your house, for they have come tosearch out all the land."
4
But the
(C)
woman had taken the two men and hidden them, and she said,"Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they came from.
5
"It came about when it came time to shut the gate at dark, that the menwent out; I do not know where the men went. Pursue them quickly, for youwill overtake them."
6
But
(D)
she had brought them up to the roof and hidden them in the stalksof flax which she had laid in order on the roof.
7
So the men pursued them on the road to the Jordan to the fords; and assoon as those who pursued them had gone out, they shut the gate.
8
Now before they lay down, she came up to them on the roof,
9
and said to the men, "
(E)
I know that the LORD has given you the land, andthat the
(F)
terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of theland have melted away before you.
10
"
(G)
For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Seabefore you when you came out of Egypt, and
(H)
what you did to the twokings of the Amorites who lived beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and Og, whomyou utterly destroyed.
11
"When we heard it,
(I)
our hearts melted and no courage remained in anyman any longer because of you; for the
(J)
LORD your God, has pre-eminencein heaven above and on earth beneath.
12
"Now therefore, please swear to me by the LORD, since I have dealtkindly with you, that you also will deal kindly with my father's household, and give me a
(K)
pledge of truth,
13
and spare my father and my mother and my brothers and my sisters, withall who belong to them, and deliver our
[a]
lives from death."
14
So the men said to her, "Our life for yours if you do not tell this businessof ours; and it shall come about when the LORD gives us the land that wewill
(L)
deal kindly and faithfully with you."
