Katie looked over Danny’s shoulder to see a large man standing in the archway. It was Jason; he had allowed his dark hair to grow a little pass his shoulders, his good eye seemed to sparkle with a passion beyond human ability. He wore a black patch over his sealed eye. He had increased his body strength and speed, mostly due to his abilities to shape shift. He was wearing black jeans, a ripped black shirt. Black biker’s boots with a steel pin through each of the heels and a long black duster coat. His good eye held an intent gaze “talking about our powers, your sister turned up about twenty minutes ago” Danny explained while he stared at Katie “you want to stay for dinner, I’m making Chinese noodles” Danny chirped, his eyes seemed to lighten. Katie stared into them and smiled, she was flirting with the Beta wolf, in front of her big brother. Any other time Katie would be going bright red, but staring at Danny made her really not care. Danny looked away and straight at Jason, Jason had a few pounds on Danny and could easily take Danny down “I’m fine, I had something before. Jason you need my help, what for” Katie asked as she stepped around Danny and walked to her brother “it involves the whole pack, three werewolves have been found killed. Not simple killings either Katie, they were slaughtered” Jason said while he walked over to the sofa and slumped back. Katie turned and walked over to a recliner and preached on the edge while Danny turned and stood behind Jason, who spread his arms across the back of the sofa “shouldn’t Julius be telling me this, unless these three wolves are your protected” Katie asked as she watched her brother “no, their new to the pack, haven’t had a protector assigned yet, to us they were just pups” Danny informed her as she, Katie looked at him then back at Jason who nodded “Julius wanted me to put it to you, last time you and Julius met you stuck a gun into his groin” Jason said with a chuckle that caused a few strands of dark hair to cover his patch. Katie sat back and sighed “you know JR needs me, you know what Christmas is like with mournful people. You know what JR will be like if I take on a privet job” Katie said as Jason nodded “I know, Julius will pay you, go through the motions with JR” Jason assured as Katie nodded, she thought “how much information do you have” Katie asked in her work voice. This trouble had turned into work, something that made Katie cringe inside. “Only a little, Julius only used me because I’m your brother” Jason admitted scornfully, a growl worked itself loose deep in his throat. Katie didn’t have time to take on her brothers problems with his alpha male, so she looked at Danny who was watching her “you’re a beta male, Julius would have told you more” Katie said firmly, eve though her skin was crawling “no, I found them, I got the information, Julius likes the title but not the dirty work, he’ll only give you the money after you accept the job” Danny said, with another scornful bite to it “so, you could tell me all you know, I can still take the job” Katie offered as Danny shook his head “Julius wants you craving for more information. If I go against his orders I’ll be challenging him,” Danny told her with a growl brewing deep in his throat. Katie knew the rules of shape shifters packs, if the alpha male gives a direct order the whole pack has to follow or risk challenging the alpha male for leadership. Katie thought, all supernatural creatures could smell a lie too “ok, so you can’t tell me out right about what you know, but could I ask you a few questions” Katie asked as Jason looked at Danny who was thinking. He had his eyes closed which disappointed Katie but kept her mind on the job “yes, Julius didn’t say anything about not answering questions” Danny admitted in a toneless voice that sacred Katie a little, but when he opened his eyes Katie didn’t feel so sacred. “Danny” Jason started but a look from Danny that made Jason look away with a cowardly dog look. Katie felt the blood rush to her fists. It had taken a lot of will power not to hit Danny, but Katie knew that members of the pack have to respect their protectors, especially if he is a beta male. But it didn’t mean Katie like it. “If Julius discovers that I didn’t follow his orders to the tee, then it will be my problem, not yours” Danny ordered in a voice that broke no argument. Katie sighed and reached for her Jason’s leg. She squeezed his knee and got his warm eye “if you can be spared from trouble I’ll sleep better” Katie said, the thought of sleep was appeasing to her. And with some ease Katie pictured Danny in that thought. But the heat climbing up her neck stop any more thoughts that seemed appeasing to her “what do you want to know Katie” Danny asked, Katie might be mistaken but she could have sworn he purred her name. But Jason didn’t pick it up, so it didn’t happen. “Um, could vampires be behind any of the murders” Katie asked with a voice that showed nothing, rivalled any supernatural creature “no, at least not any who accept the law. There’s a struggle for acknowledgment. Anglen has lost her power; a vampire called Saul has gained the power. But has to gain acknowledgment from the other vampires” Danny admitted as Katie looked down and thought, she looked back at Danny and gave him a look that might have made his skin crawl. “You can’t tell me how the three were killed can you” Katie asked as Danny crossed her arms. “No, I can take Julius but I don’t want to get into a power struggle with him just yet” Danny told her causing Katie to give her a look “sacred” her tone was teasing and tempting. Danny got that look that made Katie’s skin crawl again “so if its not vampires Katie, what else. Witches” Jason asked causing Katie to tear her eyes from Danny and on him “I don’t know, until Julius gives me a bone or two I don’t want to make a guess” Katie said causing her brother and Danny to smile. Katie frowned for a second then she smiled “not meant as a joke, ok until Julius hires me, I’m going home to sleep” Katie said as she stood “make Julius come in tomorrow and ask for me” Katie ordered as Jason stood “you got your jeep” Jason asked with concern as Katie smiled gently “yeah, and don’t worry I’ll go straight home” Katie assured while Danny turned and walked towards the coats “be careful sis, no playing spy” Jason ordered as he stood towering over Katie “I don’t have the energy to do anything more then to drive home and drag myself off to bed” Katie assured with a sleepy grin. Jason grabbed her shoulder with one hand and pulled her into a hug “be careful baby sis” Jason whispered before Danny reappeared holding Katie’s coat, Katie pulled back and smiled as genuine as she could seeing how tired she was. She stepped around her brother and lent across the sofa for her coat, which Danny gave to her, touching her hand slightly with the tip of his middle finger. Both their eyes met in a sudden spark and Katie’s skin started to crawl. Her bed was big enough for two; Katie smiled and pulled the coat on. Lust did weird things to the mind and body. Shame Katie was such a polite girl. Because a polite girl would not jump a guy only after knowing him for thirty minutes. Shame.
