The fate of disputed One Bangsar Sdn Bhd in Jalan Ara, Bangsar Baru,will be decided at the KL High Court on Friday.One Bangsar and its tenants are challenging the decision of mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad FuadIsmail to not extend the business licences of the nine restaurants.The five-year business licence expired last December. Fuad said he was keeping his promise tothe residents that it would not be renewed.“We had a discussion with the residents’ association. After listening to their demands that OneBangsar and Bangsar Seafood Restaurant should cease operations, we have decided to abide bythe lease agreement and not extend the licence, ” said Fuad.He said the restaurant operators had been given until Sept 16 to look for alternative premises.Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidinsaid he had received an appeal letter from the business owners but added that the ministrywould not reconsider its decision.Raja Nong Chik had said the site would regain its residential status as stated in the originalmaster plan.Bangsar Baru Residents Association secretary Prem Kumar said he hoped that the court would

Westand by what we said before, which is for the area to become residential again,” he said.Many residents are happy that the row of restaurants in Jalan Ara, Bangsar Baru, will ceaseoperations in September but some patrons and the public have expressed shock and dismay over the decision.Some said it was a waste to shut the restaurants down after five years.They questioned the authorities’ decision to allow the premises to be built and operated in thefirst place.“It does not make business sense,” said a resident, who preferred to be anonymous.In a statement, One Bangsar and its tenant restaurants said business would continue as usual, pending the court’s decision.Messrs Tommy Thomas, Advocates & Solicitors is representing One Bangsar, while City Hallhas appointed Thangaraj & Associates. It is learnt that Tommy Thomas will be seeking a postponement of the hearing.
