Love is the Queen of the
nless our ¶Bible study· is conforming us, both inwardly andoutwardly, to the image of
hrist, it profits us not.
The prevailing idea seems to be, that
come to God and ask Himfor something that
want, and that
expect Him to give me thatwhich
have asked. But this is a most dishonouring and degadingconception. The popular belief reduces God to a servant, ourservant: doing our bidding, performing our pleasure, granting ourdesires. No, prayer is a coming to God, telling Him my need, committing my way unto the Lord, and leaving Him to deal with itas seemeth Him best.
God has given us his
ord not only to instruct us but to direct us.
hristians expect little from God, ask little, and thereforereceive little and are content with little.
The nature of
hrist's salvation is woefully misrepresented by thepresent-day evangelist. He announces a Saviour from Hell ratherthan a Saviour from sin.

hat is sin? Sin is a species of rebellion against God.
t is self-pleasing: it is the utter ignoring of God's claims: being completely indifferent whether my conduct pleases or displeases Him.
consciousness of our powerlessness should cast us upon Himwho has all power.
God cannot change for the better, for He is already perfect; andbeing perfect, He cannot change for the worse.
