Alberta Liberal Party president steps down

[Calgary, July 15] Alberta Liberal Party (ALP) Leader David Swann has accepted the resignation of
ALP president Tony Sansotta effective immediately.

“I’d like to thank Tony for all of his contributions as president over the last year and a half,” says
Swann. “No one has worked harder than he at improving our financial situation and getting us ready
for the next election.”

Sansotta has agreed to continue to volunteer for the party in other areas, including fundraising and
election readiness, but has stepped down as president. In his resignation letter, Sansotta says his
reason for leaving is that, “the Alberta Liberal Party needs a different kind of President to work with the
leader.”

Meetings will go ahead this summer with members of the Alberta Party, the New Democrats, former
Green party supporters, Reboot Alberta organizers and any progressive Albertans interested in
cooperation in the next election, says Swann. There has been overwhelming support for Swann’s
outreach from ALP members and the general public.

“We want to put progressive solutions back on the Alberta agenda,” he says. “Let’s set aside petty
partisan squabbles and have a conversation about putting Albertans first.”

Swann says the party is seeking someone to fill the role of interim president until the next election of
officers, which has been tentatively scheduled for November. In the meantime, the VP,
Communications, Jody MacPherson, will step in temporarily to fulfill any duties and responsibilities of
the president.
