The Power Of The Tongue

There is a theme that ‘weaves’ throughout the scriptures that shows us that the most powerful member of the whole body is the tongue. What we say is so powerful. Our words have the power to heal and create or the power to destroy. We humans have the power to speak ourselves into eternal life or to speak ourselves into eternal death. Whatwe say to our children has life lasting effects on them.Proverbs 18:20-21 A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and withthe increase of his lips shall he be filled.21
Death and life are in the power of the tongue
:
and they that love it shall eat the fruitthereof. There is a connection with what is in a person’s heart and what comes out of their mouth. Our words betray what is in our hearts.Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which isgood; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which isevil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

You can learn more about a person by listening what they have to say and the way theysay it.Job 34:3 For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat. The mouth of the wickedProverbs 13:3
He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life:
but he that openeth wide hislips shall have destruction.Proverbs 10:11 The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but
violence covereth themouth of the wicked.
Isaiah 32:6 For the vile person will speak villainy (or of immorality, profane actions), andhis heart will work iniquity (iniquity means division), to practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause
thedrink
of the thirsty to fail.In Proverbs 10:11 it says the mouth of a righteous man is a well of life. His words arekind, like a healing balm, he gives encouragement and hope with his words. Incomparison the unrighteous mans words ‘speak villainy’ & ‘make empty the hungrysoul’, quite a contrast. The good man’s words are a ‘well’ of life thus fulfilling what Jesus said in the book of John.John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flowrivers of living water.Belly here means heart, Jesus is saying when we get the truth and Spirit of God in our lives out of our mouths will flow healing, faith affirming words.Proverbs 18:4&6-8 ¶
The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters
, and
thewellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.
6 ¶ A
 fool’s
lips
enter into contention
, and his mouth calleth for strokes (as in ‘to strikedown’ verbally.)7 A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and
his lips are the snare of his soul.
 8 ¶ The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost partsof the belly.Psalms 5:9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth (the wicked); their inward part isvery wickedness; their throat is an open sepulcher (tomb) ;
they flatter
with their tongue.Psalms 10:7 (The wicked) His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under histongue is mischief and vanity.
