Sam's Seventh Annual End of the Year Spiel

Wow, is it really the end of the year already? Yeah, I know, you can't believe it took this long! But it was kind of quick for me. It was a wild ride while it lasted though.

We started out with fresh digs here in the Sawdon building. That was quite a change for all of us old timers used to the cramped quarters on Scott St. Not everything went according to plan however, as my PE class found out. We struggled finding places where we could play anything. Despite the disadvantages, we found a way to have fun,

The computers were the same, till we salvaged a few old machines from dumpsters (not really, but they ran like it sometimes). They didn't always do what you wanted them to do, but again, you found a way to get what you needed.

Gee, I see a bit of pattern here. Despite all of the obstacles that we have to overcome, you guys st.ill find a way to be successful. That's not a bad thing to Iearn how to do. Think about all of the difficulties you have had in the past and think of the things you have been able to do in the short time that you have been here. At times it wasn't always enough to earn credit in a COUTse, but I saw growth in everyone of my students. That's what keeps me going through some of the more difficult times, knowing that you are making progress.

I hope you see the progress in yourselves and don't become discouraged by setbacks.

r was able to share a special moment with a few graduating seniors; climbing The WaIl at Camp Highfields. I was positive that I could get to the top. I saw others doing it with ease. When my turn to try came up, I got over the haIfway point with only a little bit of difficulty; I was still sure I was going to make it to the top. I felt fatigue set in. My fingers were getting cramped. My arms were tiring.

My legs shook with effort as I tried to get higher up the wall. I slipped. The rope held me up, but for the first time the thought struck me that I might not get to the top of the wall.

The students below me yelled encouragement. They told me where good footholds might be. Time and again, each time I fell, they encouraged me. That went on for quite some time. Eventually my arms could not lift me up anymore and I realized that I wasn't going to get to the top of the wall, this time. When T got to the bottom, I asked ifI could go again after I had rested a bit. I was able to try again, but again my body wore out and I didn't make it to the top.

But I will get to the top next year. I won't let those small setbacks get in my way. For those of you who will be seniors next year, we'll meet each other on the top of The Wall, deal? I hope you can use my experience as an example.

For the other students coming back next year, please take care of yourselves. Have a safe summer.

F or you graduates, the world is opened up to you now. You are at the beginning of your Journey. You can do anything you want. It won't be easy; at least I hope you don't take "the easy way out". I hope you choose a challenging path, one with rewards that are more valuable. Come back and see us to show off your new success. Good luck.

VAL

Val was born in Lansing. Her parents are Pearl and Audrie. She has two older sisters, and a twin brother. Val is the middle child, and since she was the youngest girl she was babied a lot. Val graduated

from Grand Ledge High School, and went to LCC. She is divorced, and has two daughters.

The oldest is Janee' whom I'm sure you all know. There is also Shannon who is a few years

younger. Val has worked at Alternative Education for twelve years. In her spare time, Val

likes to ride motorcycles, and listen to classic rock. Val's favorite holiday is Christmas,

and her final word to the parting seniors is "Always follow your heart, and never give up.

Believe in yourself.

SHAWN

Shawn was born in Albion. She has one brother and a stepbrother. Her mother'S name is Roberta and her father's name is Dennis. Unfortunately her father passed away, and she now has a stepfather, George. Shawn is the only girl, and she is the oldest. Being the oldest has made Shawn very bossy. I can see the bossiness. How about you? Shawn went to Albion High School, and attended Albion College. Shawn has never been married, and would like a man in her life. So Warren if you're reading this ... Or anyone else who is legal, and can handle a smart woman. Growing up, Shawn wanted to be an interpreter. That way she could travel around the world. Shawn has worked at AE for nine years now, and loves it here. She likes the kids here. As everyone should know, Shawn's favorite color is black, and she loves to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Shawn like's R&B, and her favorite holiday is Halloween. Shawn's biggest fear is snakes, and her last thing to say was her message to all of the students that will not be returning in the fall. "Be honest with yourself. It will get you where ever you want to go."

SAM

Sam was born in Adrian. His parents are Mary and Juan. He has many siblings consisting of John (oldest) Toni (2"d) , and Joe (youngest), That makes Sam the middle child in the bunch of kids. Being the middle child has made Sam more patient as a person, and that is probably why he is single. He is patiently waiting for the right woman to enter into his life. Sam's note on that is "yeah right!" Sam graduated from MSU. While he was growing up, Sam wanted to be a Doctor. He thought it would be cool to help people. The best thing that Sam remembers is coming back from the canoe trip alive. Sam likes to listen to techno, and his favorite movie is Star Wars. Sam hates spiders. If Sam were to win a Million Dollars we would buy a new computer, and a new house. Sam's goodbye words are" Save some of your soul for later."

SADA

Sada was born in Charlotte. Her parents are Randy, and Lynette. Sada has one younger brother.

That makes her the oldest. I asked Sada how being the oldest has affected her life.

She replied" I think I am more responsible." Sada attended a High School in North Carolina. After graduating, Sada went to college. She attended Michigan State University, and she graduated from Ollivet College. Sada is now divorced, but she would rather be married. While She was growing up, Sadawanted to be a vet. She loves animals. Sada really enjoys working here because it is different. "You have more freedom to explore with your students." Sada has only been here a little under a year, but she really liked going to Camp Highfields. In her free time Sada likes to play softball, listen to Pearl Jam, and when she can afford it, eat dinner at Red

Lobster. Sada's favorite holiday is summer break. Sada's final message to all the seniors who are leaving is "Be careful, have fun, and be safe."

RUSS

A long time ago in a far away place Carol and her husband bore their first child. They decide to name him Russell. Later on in Russ' life he became a big brother. He has three siblings. He used to have four but his brother Randy passed away. Being the oldest, Russ feels that he received less in his life as a child. Most of the education went up to elementary school, and most of the mistakes in parenting was

made through him. Russ went to Ionia High School and after that, he went to LCC for a year and a half. After wards he transferred to Western Mich. Can you believe they accepted him? I wonder how much he had to pay them to let him in. Russ loves to eat seafood, and watch the movie Brave Heart. Some where in the long path of growing up, Russ used to work at SUJmy Fresh. Russ likes to watch the Simpson's. His favorite holiday is deer season, and his favorite hobby is reloading his gun. Russ has a long message to give to the seniors. "The best way to improve your self is through self reflection. Look at what you've done, why you've done it, and try to improve on that. Always remember Buy low, and sell high."

TINA

Tina was born in Lansing Michigan a long, long time ago. Well, it wasn't that long but you get my drift. Tina has two younger brothers. She's the oldest. Tina says being the oldest has humbled her because she has seen what her siblings can do. She went to Bath High School, and from there went to Western Michigan. Tina is divorced, and has two children. A girl named Shelby, and a little man named Jonah. Tina has always wanted to be a teacher because she liked to tell people what to do.

Plus some people look up to you. Originally Tina only wanted to work part time so she could spend more time with her kids, but when she was offered a full time position she couldn't turn it down. Tina really likes it here because it is casual, and flexible. Tina likes to match when she dresses. She likes bright colors in her house, and likes green and burgundy in winter, and beige, white, and black in the summer. A big accomplishment in Tina's life is raising her two kids by herself. Tina's biggest fear is needles, and her final thought is to treat others the way you want to be treated.

Jessica Wilson

Jessica Courtney Wilson is an Irish woman who was born in Arizona on December 31, 1980. She has one I ittle bother named Beaner, and two kitty's. Her mom's name is Kathy, and her dad's name is Joe. She says he looks like a cross between Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Mr. Clean. Jessica likes to have fun. Her only problem is she get's caught constantly. She is on two separate Probations, and will hopefully be off by Janurary 2000. In her spare time, Jessie likes to listen to Pantera, Sepultura, NATAS, and E-sham. In the future, Jessie wants to be a bar tender so all of her friends, and Kimmy can be taste testers. Jessie's final words to all for the year are "Have Fun, don't get caught, and stay in school. lfyou don't you will be a th ird year sen ior I ike me!"

My name is Kelly and J am junior at Alternative. I am really glad that I decided to come here. So many people that have never been here put this place down and say that it is for losers, but this place has now become a second home for me. When people become part of this school they are welcomed. It makes it a lot easier to come to school knowing that there is some one there who cares what you do with your life. Thanks to everyone here I have decided to continue following my dream to become a music teacher. If it were not for theml probably would have dropped out of school, and would probably be a couch potato. L love to sing, and perform in front of others, and I enjoy sleeping as much as anything else. In my free time I Like to read, but lately I have no free time because of working two jobs. For anyone who has been in a position like 1 was: Keep in touch with who you are, and never give up.

Justin Wilson (Beaner)

Justin also known as Beaner, ears, and Thumper was born in Arizona on December 18th 1982. If you can do the math, that would make him 16 years old. He is currently going out with Tami Flodin. In his spare time Beaner likes to listen to ICP, and Twiztid. He enjoys making himselflook like an African American, by wearing FUBU, and other clothes that are affiliated with the African people. He is currently on probation for numerous counts that we are not going to discuss. He will finally be free by the middle of June. His final remark is that he will be a police officer, and will be going undercover as a prostitute!!!

THE ADVENTURES OF BONNIE & eLIDE

1) Bonnie and elide are having their usual day goofing around,when suddenly, out of the blue, Howard Stern starts yelling from the back of the room. "What on earth is going on?" yelled Bonnie. "Yeah, what the heck are you griping about?" Replied elide.

2) Howard, or as people liked to call him Super Howard, just stood gazing out the door. "I'm looking at some crook that's messin' with our lockers!" "Lets get him!!!!!"

4) Returning to the room, Howard noticed that Bonnie and elide were

gone.

3) Running up behind who was known as Gus the lush, Howard tackled the locker prowler and knocked him to the ground. "what the heck do you think you are doing!", replied Howard. Gus, in shock, just ran.

The 1998-1999 School Year Review ...

In the 1998-1999 school year many interesting things have happened. There have been a few big headlines in the news, like the Colorado incident, many bomb threats through out the country, and the Georgia shootings.

Of course who can forget the Y2K scare that has people still scared of the coming of the new millennium. What else could possibly happen next? Who really knows the truths from the fantasies?

Miah said that kicking the gymnastic's team out of the gym would make this place better. He has a job at Cracker Barrel. His message to give to seniors is to stay calm and think thing over.

Kristi was born in Mt. Clemens on May 10, 1981. She has a younger brother Chad and a younger sister Kaiti. Kristi has pets at her house. She has a cat named Bebe, and a dog named Shelby. After Kristi graduates she wants to go into accounting. She can't wait til she graduates so she can walk out the door for the last time. At this time in her life, Kristi is employed at Horrocks. In the small amount of free time, she likes to chill with her friends, and her boyfriend Jeremiah. Kristi's message to the up coming seniors is "Smartin' up and start doing your work!"

Eighteen year would Katie was born on June 21st 1980 in Kansas. Katie's favorite sport is football. Her hobbies consist of sleeping, going to the park, and watching the Nanny. Katie has a big family. She has one half sister Sam, one half brother Heath, and nine step brothers and sisters. Her favorite color is pink, and she listens to all types of music. After graduation, Katie plans on going to LCC and then transferring to MSU. She wants to become a vet tech, and then possibly go back to school to get her Doctorate in veterinarian medicine. However, Shannon wants to become a missionary. As most of you know, Shannon is very involved with her church. She is in what her church calls Youth Alive. Also Shannon is in the church choir which performs at two services on Sunday. Shannon said that she really enjoys being here. When asked, she said that the environment that she is in, is a really good atmosphere. "There are more opportunities to meet friends, and really get to know the teachers." The final question that I asked Shannon was a message to give to upcoming seniors here at Alternative Ed. She said," A secret is best kept between three friends, if two are dead.

ANGELA MARIE MOLLETTE

Angie was born in Eaton Rapids on September 18th in the year of 1979. She has one older brother, and a younger sister. That makes Angie the middle child. Angie is a pet lover. She has a dog named Ginger, and a cat named Critter. After she graduates this year, Angie wants to go on to become a Preschool teacher. In Angies' spare time, she enjoys listening to Christian music, watching Alley McBeal on Mondays, and attend Mt. Hope church almost everyday. Angie has a boyfriend named Bill, and they had been together for about 2 1/2 years, before they split up. However they are now back together again .. Her best friends are Shannon, Michelle, and Erin. After graduation, Angie will be taking classes at LCC. So you will see her around.

Brian Block was born in Knoxville TN. His parents Rose and Harry have four children. Brian has two sisters, and one brother. Besides, having siblings around he also has many pets.
