Dear Darren,
.
Tuesday, Bloombergs "How Countries Cut Carbon by Putting a Price on It casts serious doubt whether COP or the U.S.
or any other nation will succeed in finding the right level of tax/ton CO2, let alone agree to proceed. Here are a few excerpts:
.
"One obstacle toward a tax on carbon is the question over how high they should be."
.
"While a global price is unlikely anytime soon, negotiators at climate talks in Bonn are seeking to make
progress on rules that would help nations compare climate policies and carbon prices while paving he
way for international allowance trading. Under one series of debates on alternatives to markets, nations
may even consider trading emission reduction achieved by taxes."
.
"Six of the worlds largest oil companies Royal Dutch Shell, BP, Eni SpA, Statoil ASA, Total SA and
GB Group wrote an open letter to the UN in June 2015, alling for clear, stable, long-term policies
and a price on carbon."
.
A completely unrelated report in UK Independent's Government given 1 days to explain climate change failures or
face legal action also published Tuesday hit the nail on the head with this:
.
But with most homes heated by gas and most vehicles still using petrol or diesel, the UK is a long way
off meeting the 2032 target.
.
I believe you and the other Management at ExxonMobil believe this to be true, and this is why you proclaim support of
COP and national policies to adopt a revenue-neutral carbon tax: Individual nations and COP are impotent to design
and implement an effective carbon prices scheme locally or globallyit wont happen in your life time.
.
Thus, effecting concrete measures to reduce hydrocarbon production, refining and combustion fall on your shoulders.
..
Sincerely yours,
Doug Grandt
