Resumen
 Desde sus inicios, el cine ha servido para registrar y mostrar partes de la realidad. Estanecesidad de documentar hechos de la vida cotidiana hizo que se vayan estructurandohistorias y acontecimientos con una narrativa que aprovecharía todos los recursosaudiovisuales. Fue así que nace el cine documental y al mismo tiempo realizadorescomprometidos con mostrar esas realidades poco conocidas alrededor del mundo y enespecial, denunciar las desigualdades económicas y sociales. Surge el documental dedenuncia social al mismo tiempo que se consolidan las ideologías políticas en el mundo.El socialismo y el capitalismo marcan el destino de los pueblos, logrando acrecentar lariqueza de unos y la pobreza de otros. El Ecuador no fue la excepción, motivo por el cuallos realizadores ecuatorianos tuvieron que hacer documentales que evidencien lasituación del país. A excepción de Cuba, el triunfo del capitalismo en el continente seconcretó debido a la intervención de Estados Unidos, en especial por medio del apoyo adictaduras militares que derrocaron a los gobiernos democráticos. Los militantes deizquierda pusieron resistencia al dominio imperialista de diferentes maneras. Seconformaron grupos guerrilleros y movimientos políticos de acción popular. En tiemposde guerra la ideología debía hacerse evidente para incidir en el cambio de dirección queestaba necesitando América Latina. Es así que nace el cine documental militante, conrealizadores comprometidos en denunciar desde su posición ideológica. Militantes enEcuador se unen a la eterna lucha contra el sistema capitalista y sus nefastasconsecuencias contra la población. Con la llegada del video, los costos del equiponecesario para registrar imágenes en movimiento baja por lo que surgen los llamadosvideoactivistas.

Abstract
From the begging, cinema has been used to register and show parts of reality. Thisnecessity to document facts of the daily life made that stories and events to be structuredwith a narrative that will make the most of the audiovisuals resources. It was that way thatwere born the documentary films and at the same time filmmakers politically committedin showing those little known realities around the world and specially, denouncing theeconomic and social inequalities. Documentary films of social denunciation emerge at thesame time that the political ideologies consolidate in the world. The socialism and thecapitalism marked the destiny of the people, managing to increase the wealth of some andthe poverty of others. Ecuador wasn’t an exception, for which motive the Ecuadorianfilmmakers had to do documentaries that made clear the situation of the country.Excluding Cuba, the triumph of capitalism in the continent was concreted due to theintervention of the United States, especially by its support to military dictatorships thatoverthrew the democratic governments. The left militants putted resistance to the imperialdomination in different ways. Different guerrilla groups and political movements of  popular action were conformed. In times of war the political ideology had to be madeevident to affect the change of direction that needed Latin America. It was that way thatwas born the militant documentary cinema, with filmmakers committed to denounce fromtheir ideological position. Militants in Ecuador joined the eternal fight against thecapitalist system and its negative consequences against the people. With the arrival of thevideo technology, the prices of the equipment necessary to register images in movementlowered making the videoactivists appear in the audiovisual scene.
