A Weekly Stirring up the Soul of India
The English Electronic mediaseems to have got into its latest ”BreakingNews mode” by linking the RSS(Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) to theblasts in Ajmer and Mecca Masjid inHyderabad. Channels like CNN-IBN,seem to be dead sure about the RSSinvolvement in terror attacks citing CBIinformation. And of course they claim tohave “inside information” from CBI & govt. This is the typical “spit and run journalism”that the Indian English media employs. While this is going on, The CentralBureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesdaydescribed as “misleading” reports in asection of the media that some membersof the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh(RSS) have been questioned by theagency in connection with bomb blastcases. CBI Director Ashwani Kumar saidthey had not questioned any of the RSSleaders in the bomb blast cases. What then is the credibility of theMedia ?The electronic media, by maligningan organisation that inculcates spirit ofnationalism and self pride among thecountrymen, is playing to the tunes oftheir unseen masters who remote controlthe media in India.Who backs these mediamen? The strength for the anti Hindustance of the English media seems tocome from the anti Hindu Congress itself.Over the last 85 years, the RSS has beentargetted by the Congress governments. The First Ban of RSS by the

Anti-Hindu drive is once again on therise as is volubly seen across mediaspectrum and it is an open secret thatthis has the blessings of the Sonia Gandhiruled Congress-led UPA government. However, it is important that the UPAgovernment and its friendly mediaunderstand that it is not the Hindus thatare the problem but the two aggressiveneighbors - China and Pakistan are, andtherefore, they need to work jointly to raisethe overall confidence and unity amongthe peoples of India as a whole tostrengthen against the emergingchallenges from the two neighbors.Yes, currently the Bhartiya JanataParty (BJP) the country's sole oppositionparty is in a restrengthening mode underits new leader Nitin Gadkari; internaldifferences like in any other political partyare being highlighted time and again andNitin Gadkari is being put in bad light, more at a time when he is also focusingon the priorities like elections in Biharthis year, followed by the ones to be heldin West Bengal, Assam and Tamil Nadunext year. But politicians are politiciansand with the friendly press on their side, the UPA government does not want to let

BJP to strengthen its roots in the states itrules (Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka andits latest attempts in the Uttar Pradesh). So, almost like a political Mafioso andtactics, the UPA government uses itspowers to browbeat the party from allpossible quarters and thereby create anti-Hindu atmosphere across the country. The recent crisis in Karnataka - ruledby BJP - is said to be the indirect 'creation'by the state's governor H R Bhardwaj, former law minister (under UPAgovernment) and a veteran Congressleader. The BJP spokesperson NirmalaSeetharam told reporters in Chennai that"The Governor is the problem". For variousreasons, HR Bhardwaj is charged with'excessive interference' in the administrativeaffairs in the state, and BJP pinned him asthe 'problem' for putting the state and theruling BJP in news for 'all wrong reasons'.He has also appraised President PratibhaPatil about the 'crisis' in Karnataka State. For obvious reasons, the mediaspectrum is too happy to highlight the'developments' in Karnataka State.A lot of noise is being made aboutthe recent attack on news channel for itssting operation on one of the leaders ofRSS group. The latest case is that of amob attacking on July 16, the Delhi officeof TV Today Network whose HeadlinesToday channel that had on June 1 carriedout a sting operation and had aired thecontents (on July 16) of tapes of theoperation showing the secret meetingsof RSS leader Indresh Kumar who isshown as discussing the need forcarrying out terrorist attacks in the country.Writing on the subject, Vir Sanghvi

CNN-IBN, the Indian news (andentertainment?) television channel, seems to be recklessly behind RashtriyaSwayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to “expose”it as a “terror” organization. Itscorrespondent Bhupendra Chaubeyseem to be dead sure about RSS’sinvolvement in “Mecca Masjid Blast Case”(see “RSS under scanner for links toHindu terrorists“); just like those Islamicclerics, Indian Muslim apologists as wellas Communists, who are desperate toprove existence of a “Hindu Terrorism”.Chubey “claims” that CBI has“interrogated the RSS leaders”.Interestingly the investigating agency“disapproves” of it. So what’s the basisfor these claims? “We have access toinvestigation reports.” suggests Chubey.Yawn! This is boring – to say the least. Anold trick used by these channels to “thrill”it’s viewers. There is an old saying, whichChaubey don’t seem to know. Let me helpto jog his memory: “Fool me once shameon you; fool me twice shame on me.”If CNN-IBN and it’s pompous teamtend to believe that they can take theIndian public for ride forever with thisstupid trick then they have grosslyunderestimated the intelligence of Indianmasses. Indians are no idiots. Theysmartly apply their mind. If not for theirability to see through why would NarendraModi continue to hold his office? After all,the telly channel’s vicious propagandawas so phenomenal! That none caresfor these propaganda and claims – otherthan twits in select-metros – must havebeen evident to them, already. However, one question which willbother people is: following the trend ofthe Jihadists in this country, will RSSsome day retort to terrorism? New Delhi, July 15, 2010: India'sabysmal track record at ensuring basiclevels of nutrition is the greatestcontributor to its poverty as measured bythe new international Multi-dimensionalPoverty Index (MPI). About 645 millionpeople or 55% of India's population ispoor as measured by this compositeindicator made up of ten markers ofeducation, health and standard of livingachievement levels.Developed by the Oxford Povertyand Human Development Initiative(OPHI) for the United NationsDevelopment Programmes (UNDP)forthcoming 2010 Human DevelopmentReport, the MPI attempts to capture morethan just income poverty at the householdlevel. It is composed of ten indicators:years of schooling and child enrollment(education); child mortality and nutrition(health); and electricity, flooring, drinkingwater, sanitation, cooking fuel and assets(standard of living). Each education andhealth indicator has a 1/6 weight, eachstandard of living indicator a 1/18 weight. The new data also shows that evenin states generally perceived asprosperous such as Haryana, Gujaratand Karnataka, more than 40% of thepopulation is poor by the new compositemeasure, while Kerala is the only statein which the poor constitute less than20%. The MPI measures both theincidence of poverty and its intensity. Aperson is defined as poor if he or she isdeprived on at least 3 of the 10 indicators.By this definition, 55% of India was poor, close to double India's much-criticisedofficial poverty figure of 29%. Almost 20%of Indians are deprived on 6 of the 10indicators.Nutritional deprivation is

Congress-1948 : The Sangh enjoyed verypopularity due to the extensive service toHindus that it rendered durign thepartition. Pt. Nehru perceived the Sanghas a potential political threat, and underthe influence of the Left parties wasalways on the look out for an opportunityto crush the RSS.So much so that on January 29,1948, that is just a day before the murderof the Mahatma, he thundered in Amritsarthat he would see that the RSS is totallyuprooted from the face of India. Theassasination of Gandhiji gave him anopportunity to implicate the RSS and hedid it. However, the Sangh was honourablyacquitted by the Courts after fighting thecase for more than 18 months duringwhich time thousands of innocents weretortured by the Congress governments.Inspite of this, the Congressleaders and the English mediacontinues to spread the propaganda thatGodse killed Gandhi on the behest of theRSS. Once Prof.Rajendra Singh (4thSarsanghchalak of RSS) remarkedduring an interview, “Godse worked in theCongress for many years. Can we thensay that he was motivated by theCongress to kill Gandhiji because of hisassociation with Congress.”The RSS was once again bannedin 1975 by Pt.Nehru’s daughter,Smt.Indira Gandhi during the “infamous”Emergency. The rest is history. More than80000 sangh swayamsevaks filled the jails and launched a never before seensatyagraha against Emergency underthe leadership of Loknayak JayaprakashNarayan. The Congress governmentwas forced to uplift the ban.It must be noted that in the historyof Independent India, this was the onlytime when the Free will of the people wassuppressed and yet the Congress callsthe BJP-RSS as fascist. It is theCongress which has always sought toimplement facisit methods to suppresscontradictory voice to its own.The Third ban on Sangh by theCongress was in 1992 during theRamajanmabhumi movement whenonce again the Congress’s anti-Hindunature came up to the forefront.Once again, now as part of theagenda to “crush” the RSS, the anti Hinduforces have unleashed propaganda withterms like RSS terror and Hindu terror. They believe that by this, the discussionon Islamic terror will be muted and winthe Muslim votes. They would also beable to alieniate a big section of Hindusaway from the RSS.The General Secretary of the RSS,Sri Suresh (Bhayyaji) Joshi had issued aclear statement that the RSS oppossesterror and terrorists. He insisted that RSSonly believed in the Constitutional path. TheRSS would not support or protect anyoneindulging in violent activities. The RSSbelieves in resolving matters by increasingpublic awareness. He has also indicatedthat the RSS is willing to co-operate in anyinvestigation if it involves solving the casesof the bomb blasts but asserted thatinnocent Hindus should not be harassed. But, this aspect is coolly ignored bythe Media. Sri Ram Madhavji also clarifiedthat Sri Devender Gupta was a VibhagPracharak in the RSS but moved on fromthe RSS. Why then is media goingoverboard on the involvement of oneperson in an alleged terror attack in anorganisation in which more than 5-6 Lacspeople come together in the shakas everyday? If bomb blasts was on the agenda ofthe RSS, even a dimwit could imagine whatthe situation in India would have been!Indians who once believed themedia to be the weapon of justice areseeing through the games that thesemedia houses are nothing but businesshouses who are out to earn some fastTRP ratings.Meanwhile the media continues toattempt to entertain the audience by theirBreaking News once again. There was a section in theCongress in 1948 that saw through thisgame of the leftists. Sardar Patelrepresented this section. On January 7,1948, in a speech in Lucknow (U.P.) hesaid, “In the Congress those who are inpower feel that by virtue of their authoritythey will be able to crush the RSS. Butyou cannot crush an organisation byusing the danda. The danda is meant forthe thieves and dacoits. After all, the RSSmen are not thieves and dacoits. Theyare patriots who love their country.”The time has arrived once again forleaders from various fronts to put an endto this Hindu bashing.

(Hindustan Times, Sunday, July 18, 2010)said: 'The tape recordings had beenmade by one of the terrorists himself andwere part of the police investigation in tothe matter. Headlines Today said thetapes suggested a worrying nexusbetween the terrorists and individualswithin the Sangh Parivar.'Infuriated with this "baseless" and"wrong" information, a number of RSSand BJP affiliated members had enteredthe office of Headlines Today and otherunidentified persons had joined thegroup, which the former say would beunrelated to us and they all hadransacked the Headlines Today office.Police said it has detained 30 people whoare suspected to be members of RSSand investigations are on.WHAT SAFFRON PARTY? - Even asthe Congress and its allies are increasinglybefriending with the Muslims, for the votebank politics, they do not have the courageand inclination too to either call the Muslimsas 'Green Brigade' or 'Green Party' or theirincreasing terrorist-supportive activities as'Green Terror'. Neither do the government-friendly media dare to call them 'Green' evenwhen Green is the popular color of theMuslims and they blatantly, illegally, andproudly display their green flags in theircommunities as a sign of their supremacyin that region that is almost like an islandamong other communities. However, the members of both theRSS and the BJP with Hindu philosophyare tarnished with the word 'saffron' -saffron brigade, saffron party, saffronactivists, saffron terror, etc. Writing aboutthe above news, the Hindustan Timesreport (dt July 17) said 'Saffron Rage -RSS men attack TV channel'. In anotherinstance, the Times of India's PTI report(dt July 19) said 'The saffron party for BJP'.Karnataka is ruled by BJP which isdisturbing Congress party and itsmembers. And the media is helping tospread this word. In one of its reports,India Tribune has said 'RSS sends SOSto BJP on 'saffron terror'.’For more than three days, the TVmedia have been repeatedly flashing thenews of mob attack on TV office. OnSunday evening, Aaj Tak TV channel ofTV Today took up this issue to bediscussed among its editor PrabhuChawla and the members of the BJP andCongress. As has been the practice ofthe TV media as a whole, and in this caseof TV Today and Aaj Tak in particular, themembers of BJP were simply not allowedto present their case and objection. Evenif they could get their view across, thetroublesome 'saffron' tag and themisconceptions that go with it cannot besimply removed from public psyche. One of the news lines had said"Saffron activists attack Headlines Todayoffice". In this particular episode, ShinaNC of BJP was repeatedly interrupted withloud noise either from the anchor or fromPrabhu Chawla. Shina NC raising herpitch asked the anchor about the basisfor the media splashing the concept of"saffron terrorism" and asked why it hasbeen brought up time and again. Well,Prabhu Chawla, the editor simply did nothave the answer and instead almostshouted saying: "All this shows that theBJP is shorn of any productive andproactive ideas and therefore, it resortstime again to such hooliganism. It isimportant that the BJP respect and followdemocratic system and discuss itsgrudges across the table."On his part, Abhishek Singhvi aspokesperson for the Congress said"the culprits will be punished severely".This went on for almost 30 minutesand the program was over without anyconclusion.WARNING WRIT LARGE - Yes, as inany political party including BJP, there wouldbe some elements which are troublesomeand "loony" too. While it is important thatthese elements are removed from theparties at the earliest, it is important for boththe UPA government and its friendly mediatoo to read the warning signals writlarge over the global political arenawhere intense efforts are being workedout to keep India pinned down from itsinevitable rise on the global economy, challenging both USA and China. On its part, USA is openly andblatantly playing a double game of beinga friend to India but is wholesomelysupporting and giving financial aid toPakistan which it has and will use itagainst destabilizing and terroristsupporting activities across its borders, more so in Jammu and Kashmir. The failure of the latest round of yetanother round of diplomatic talks betweenIndia's foreign minister SM Krishna andhis Pakistani counterpart Shah MahmoodQureshi is yet another distressing signalof the looming challenge from Pakistan. No wonder, US Secretary of State HillaryClinton is currently on a 2-day visit toPakistan to buttress a shaky partnershipwith Pakistan… and reports inform thevisit will include talks with top military andcivilian leaders as well as pledges ofeconomic aid.China is known to be an aggressiveneighbor who wants to increasingly eatinto India's north eastern borders. An SMSbeing circulated warns of an impendingwar against India by both Pakistan andChina - either independently and or jointly. The political parties and thesupposedly unbiased and sociallyaware, opinion building and wantingfreedom of expression all the time, themedia too should work independentlyand collectively to raise the overallawareness against the impendingchallenges - both internal and externaland strengthen and unite the peoples ofthe country India as a whole.

candid answer for this. NEVER!Why? When the RSS was started itdid had a rebellious and revolutionarytendencies like that of Bhagath Singh andChandra Shekhar azad. They didn’t reallyfollow Gandhi during their formative years. But as the time passed they realized thatthey won’t stand a chance if they soughtto violence. This is because Indian’s,specifically Hindus, are mostly “peaceloving”. Besides, after the founding of JanaSangh, now BJP, RSS has realized thebenefits of “remote controlling”. If youobserve, in any Indian state where BJP isin power, RSS has its say in the stategovernment to a great extent. They gettheir work done, somehow. Besides, when the government is in mess theyaren’t blamed for it though at times theymay also be the reason.Today’s RSS – I am sad to say – isa clumsy dinosaur. It is “huge”,supposedly “well disciplined” and “verynationalistic in spirit”. But it is alsobureaucratic and its leadership hasserious problem understanding anythingother than politics. They have stuck theirheads into the past and have lost theirforesight to look into the future.

overwhelmingly the largest factor inoverall poverty, unsurprising given thathalf of all children in India are under-nourished according to the NationalFamily Health Survey III (2005-06). Closeto 40% of those who are defined as poorare also nutritionally deprived. In fact, thecontribution of nutrition to the overall MPIis even greater in urban than rural India.A comparison of the state of MadhyaPradesh and the sub-Saharan nation ofthe Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC), which have close to the samepopulation and a similar MPI (0.389 and0.393 respectively) , shows thatnutritional deprivation, arguably the mostfundamental part of poverty, in MP farexceeds that in the DRC. Nutritionaldeprivation contributes to almost 20% ofMP's MPI and only 5% of the DRC's MPI.MP's drinking water, electricity and childmortality levels are better than that of theDRC.Multi-dimensional poverty is highest(81.4% poor) among Scheduled Tribeswithin India's Hindu population, followedby Scheduled Castes (65.8%), OtherBackward Class (58.3%) and finally thegeneral population (33.3%).There is significant variationbetween the poverty incidence in variousstates as per the MPI and as per the IndianPlanning Commission's official figures.Based on the MPI, Bihar has by far themost poor of any state in the country, with81.4% of its population defined as poor, which is close to 12% more than the nextworst state of Uttar Pradesh. As per the Planning Commission'sfigures, 41.4% of Bihar and 32.8% of UPis poor. In a possible indication ofinadequate access to health andeducation facilities which do not showup in income poverty, almost 60% ofnorth-east India and close to 50% ofJammu & Kashmir are poor as per theMPI, while the Planning Commissionfigures are around 16% and 5%respectively.The findings would provide furtherballast to the argument of someeconomists that India's official povertyestimation methods are too narrowlyfocused to capture the real extent ofdeprivation in the country.

According to Government of Indiaas well as international agencies, 30%of the Indian Population is living in poorconditions. Therefore everybody is tryingtheir best to uplift the Indian poor. Peopleadopted the non-profit making NGOroutes for this cause.Nowadays all are staring NGO’s,trying to get donations, applying forIncome Tax exemptions for gettingdonations. According to these NGOs theyare for the service of Indian poor. Butpractically, only a small part of thedonations these NGOs are getting ispassed off to the poor and a major chunkof the income is diverted either for thewelfare of the people behind the NGOsor used for some other purpose.

According to a recent press report,in India, for every 400 Indians there isone NGO. According to statisticsavailable as on 31.12.2009, there are 3.3Million NGOs for a population of 1120million Indian population.Despite the fact that these NGOscollects and spends 40,000 to 80,000crores annually for the welfare of poor,30% of Indian remains poor. This clearlyshows that even though these NGOs areregistered as non-profit makinginstitutions, they are actually working asprofit making ventures for their sponsors.I request all nationalists to donateyour hard earned money to those NGOswhich are actually doing something toIndian poor and for the national cause.New Delhi, July 16, 2010: Formerpresident APJ Abdul Kalam's famous"thinking hut" in Rashtrapati Bhavan'sMughal Gardens has been removed aswork begins to restore the originalcharacter of Edwin Lutyens' best-knownarchitectural creation. The Manipuri style hut was installedduring Kalam's tenure and the formerpresident used to sit there in themornings and evenings. He fondlyreferred to it as his "thinking hut" and toldvisitors that two of his books were writtenon its sofas. While the hut made Kalam'screative juices flow, a committee ofexperts appointed for the restorationproject has deemed it an eyesore in agarden designed by Lutyens as a uniquemix of English and Mughal landscaping. The committee has also suggestedthat Kalam's other contribution to MughalGardens a modern-day musical fountainbe demolished as this too defiles theheritage character of Lutyens worldfamous marvel. The restoration of RashtrapatiBhavan is part of an ambitious project topreserve the majestic buildings onRaisina Hill that serve as iconic symbolsof independent India. Other buildings onthe conservation radar are ParliamentHouse and North and South Blocks.Three different expert committees areoverseeing the restoration work but UPAchairperson Sonia Gandhi is believed tobe taking keen interest in the project. Shewas also the inspiration behind the firstheritage project, undertaken in 1985 whenRajiv Gandhi was prime minister, inwhich the Prime Minister's Office,Hyderabad House and parts ofRashtrapati Bhavan, notably Ashoka Hall, were stripped of latter-day additions andrestored to their original glory.Architect Charles Correa, architectural restorer Sunita Kohli andartist Satish Gujral are among the expertswhose advice and help have beensought for the project.
