Celebration of December 5

, Lalitpurorganised a 'Khir Bhojan' (Rice Puddingfeeding) programme to the aged, orphanpeople residing in the PashupatiBridhashram, the shelter inside thePashupati temple complex on Dec 5, 2000.More than the 200 aged people enjoyed thespecial food on the occasion of IYV 2001.The NGO had also produced T-Shirt thatcontained the name of the NGO on the frontside. The Back of the T-shirt was markedwith the big IYV logo with the fourobjectives of IYV in national language. Themain sponsors for the programme were theReiukai Nepal, the Himalaya Dairy and theLalitpur Municipality.

, national NGO and AsianVolunteer Organisation, Sindhupalchok  jointly organised a celebration programmein Chautara town on December 5, 2000.They conducted talk programme on IYV forthe students of class 9 and 10 in the ShreeKrishna Higher Secondary School,Chautara town, Sindhupalchok district.Then 200 students from the 10 schoolsrallied with slogan " 1 hour for volunteeringworks'. The rally went through the townand collected paper, plastics for sanitationpurposes.

, Banke based local NGOorganized one-day interaction programmeon “Role of Social Workers on IYV 2001”on December 5, 2000. 20 participants (4women) took part in the programme. TheSame NGO also produced a fresco on thewall of the office facing the East-WestHighway of Nepal by mentioning slogan (inthe national language): “Serve genuinely,make success IYV 2001”. It was publishedin the Express local paper published onDecember 1, 2000.

. The Refugee Women Forum
(RWF),Jhapa district organised the IYV celebrationprogramme. There were 200 hundredvolunteers from the RWF completed their 5years of voluntary services in Sanishare,Timai, Goldhap, Kudunabari, Beldangi I, II,and Beladangi Extension. The volunteerswere provided with certificates inrecognition of their valuable serviceparticipated by UNHCR, WFP, CARITAS,LWF, NRCS and OXFAM.

The day long program, the first timeorganised IVD program for the refugeesresiding in the camps in Jhapa and Morangdistricts in the Eastern part of Nepal, whichincludes a meeting, debate competition,sports was held inviting all camp committeemembers, teachers, governmentrepresentative to judge the activities. Theday was celebrated in befitting manner andcarried out a program along with preparedbanners and playcards. The IYV 2001message was given along with printedmaterials to the participants. The prize andaward distribution has taken place at theend of the program for those young andaged volunteers. The program was
supported by UN Volunteer Mr. G. B.A.Gunasingha and by UNHCR and WFP.

IYV 2001 Launch through The Volunteer Exhibition 
Hon’ble Minister of Science andTechnology Mr. Surendra P. Chaudharylaunched IYV 2001 in Nepal by opening aVolunteer Exhibition organized by IYV2001 National Steering Committee forNepal, on 17 December 2000 in theBhrikuti Mandap hall, Kathmandu. A brief report is given in

4. Meet the Press on IYV Launch:
Meetthe Press programme occurred immediatelyafter the IYV 2001 launch. The 18 journalists representing the National dailynews papers- Gorkhapatra, the Kantipur andKathmandu Post, Space time, Himalayatimes, Nepali Samachar Patra, Lokpatra,Spotlight Journal, FM Radios-Sagarmathaand Kantipur and Space Time TV Channel,attended the programme.
