EDITOR’S LETTER
O
n June 30th, television lostone o the best shows air-ing on US screens, althoughwhether you’ve heard o it, unortu-nately, is another question.Putting out 20 episodes, 10per season,
Party Down
was as shortlived as some o the classic comedies, stopped in its prime, although you cancertainly see why Starz cut the cord.Te second season nale drew an audi-ence o just 74,000, ratings suicide orany V show (it literally hit a 0.0 onthe Nielson scale), what’s strange isthat more people didn’t get the bug.Centering around a hal-arsedcatering company, made up entirely o ailed (or ailing) actors, it’s the classicHollywood cliché but done so well theawkward comedy really hits a beat. With a couple o aces leaving partway through, with others taking up theslack, over its run
Party Down
playedhost to Adam Scott, Ken Marino, LizzyCaplan, Martin Starr, Megan Mullally,Ryan Hansen, Jane Lynch, and Jen-nier Coolidge, about as stellar cast asyou could nd on V at the moment. While behind the scenes, two o theour co-creators, Paul Rudd and RobTomas (Veronica Mars), are namesyou need not mention twice.Sadly, even i Starz had kept theshow on, it may never have been thesame again. Lead Adam Scott is set totake up a regular role on
Parks & Recre-ation
this all, while Ryan Hansen andLizzy Caplan both have pilots bookedor new shows, while one o the stand-out stars, Jane Lynch, let last year or
Glee
. Tere’s little doubt
Party Down
is a better show than any o their newprojects, but in terms o public appealand commercial viability, by the end,it certainly didn’t make nancial senseor Starz to keep it going.Like
Freaks And Geeks
beore it,ironically another o Starr’s old shows,
Party Down
ans were in uproar aterthe announcement o its cancellation, although at least the latter’s nale o-ered up some kind o resolution. It’ll(hopeully) go down in history as oneo the best comedies o its generation, and nd a cult ollowing on DVD. I that doesn’t get cancelled too.
