Foreword
This document represents the Australian Government’s draft National Disability Strategy. This Strategy has been developed in consultation with people with disability, the community,State and Territory Governments and the Australian Local Government Association. The Gillard Labor Government is committed to ensuring that people with disability are ableto fulfil their potential and this plan outlines a nationwide approach to improving the livesof people with disability. The Strategy will guide public policy across governments and aims to bring about changein all mainstream services and programs as well as community infrastructure so that peoplewith disability have the same opportunities as other Australians – to a quality education, tohealth care, to have a job where possible and to access buildings, transport and social activities.A re-elected Gillard Labor Government will take this National Disability Strategy Councilof Australian Governments meeting early next term.
