The cost of our belief is free as provided by the completed satisfaction in the death of Christ. The cost of discipleship is an erroneous proposition. It is insult to offer repayment to God for salvation. It is worship to trust in a secured salvation.

What about the cost of discipleship? God's grace is costly because it cost his Son and it is costly to us because it costs us our WHOLE life. No matter our logically surmised spiritual position with God, shouldn't we be circumspect about whether our life on this Earth is consistent with our supposed faith. If we are not paying attention, we may find out that our faith is dead (James)and based on some insurance policy of death in a country where they don't bail out AIG. My personal and probably cynical belief is that most Christians need to be more concerned about the cost of discipleship (Bonhoeffer) than they do their position with God through some correct belief formula. The scales of justice most commonly pertain to the weighing/balancing of transgressions and punishments in a court of law. The terrifying thing is that the scriptures speak of complete surrender of your will to the Holy Spirit. Good luck Christian soldiers... I like the comparison of Islamic and Christian faith from the perspective of martyrdom. One big reason why Christians don't split into more aggressive splinters and bomb things very often is that western cultures citizenry is more in control of their fate, we got all the pretty ladies, and our standard of living is better. From that perspective, less martyrs from the west makes sense. The wannabe martyrs in the west have more to live for and less injustice to fight against.
