Abstract
 The mutual fund industry is still in growth stage and retailinvestors have not really warmed up to the idea of investing inthe stock market owing to the volatility which jeopardizes thecontinuous above average returns starting from a very shortperiod which a retail customer wants & also there is a plethora of choices which as many as 35 AMCs in India & every one withalmost all types of funds. In the debt market people still feelcomfortable excepting a lower post tax return from bank FDs,post office saving & bonds rather than going for a debt fund whichindicate a higher yield.This reports talks aboutclassification of mutual funds schemes according to differentobjective & later on performance evaluation is done using NAVand finally questionnaire has been prepared to know theconsumer behavior towards mutual fund.
