The white washed hospital corridors made Katie feel even worse then when she fell over. Wilbur had yet to turn up, the nice and fresh looking secretary at the front desk had told her that she was waiting for him to finish and by now Katie had just about finished her third coffee, which may have proven that she was sitting rather too close to the coffee machine. Katie threw the foam cup in a waste bin and was about to grab a fourth cup when the large swinging doors open and Wilbur swept in with a sour look on his face. Katie rose from her chair in anticipation of the steam that Wilbur was no doubt about to shed, not that he ever meant any disrespect to Katie but he hated yelling at anyone in his own department and though he never admitted it he didn’t like yelling or even raising his voice to Katie but she was the only sound board and he did always give her some leeway afterwards. Wilbur stopped in front of her and sighed, his face not lifting “there was a few hitches with getting this autopsy pushed forward, no one was happy” Wilbur snapped as Katie yawned then rubbed her aching forehead “never asked you to do this, in actual fact I would have like the few hours of sleep I could scavenge together before my shift starts at Supernatural Squad” this no sleep was making Katie into a bitch and a half. But Wilbur chose not to take any notice of the last part “come on, Holly is on the late shift, that’s what got this autopsy pushed along” Wilbur sounded and looked beat, so holly was the best thing that could happen tonight. Holly Chou was the best supernatural examiner not to mention the godmother to Wilbur’s eldest daughter. Wilbur walked towards the first lab and pushed the doors inward allowing Katie to go first into the stainless steel autopsy room. There was a cleanser smell to the room that caused the nose hairs to burn, there stood four long and grated stainless steel tables in a row and standing beside one of the tables was Holly Chou, a petite Japanese woman who always looked like a porcelain doll even with the white lab coat and bloodily apron. She lifted her dark eyes to the two people standing before her and as always gave them a large grin. “If you two didn’t look so pissed off I would dare to ask how’s the world been treating you both” holly was trying her best to take the edge off the tension, “holly my night has yet to finish, this look is the tip of a very large iceberg” as ever Wilbur was be his charming self causing a rather chirpy holly to grin even more “ok shall we get down to this” holly declared before grabbing a mike hanging over the table and switching a small button with a clicking sound. “This is Doctor Holly Chou, also present is Detective Sergeant W. Hamilton and Miss K. Ions of the spook squad. The time is 05:27 and the case number is # 057/7812” holly had used her work voice which was clear and sharp.

The rustling sound of the plastic sheet being pulled back echoed around the empty room and added to Katie’s massive headache. She had to wonder if JR would be kind enough to allow Katie a days rest, but all she kept coming up with was ‘not a chance in hell’. Holly had by now looked over the body and was deep in thought. Her thin pink lips pursed tightly together as though kissing some invisible being “who wants the first shot at what did he die of” Katie always felt bad about the guessing game because it always made her feel better. And she knew that Wilbur enjoyed showing off his detective skills. And of course he always won. Wilbur looked at the body and still had a look that made it clear he didn’t enjoy the company of dead humans. But Wilbur still looked for a good full minute before he rocked on his heels and shoved his hands deep into his pockets, a gesture Katie only saw in the old detective movies.

“Snapped neck” Wilbur was sounding pretty sure and when Katie looked at holly she knew that Wilbur had won another game “and the detective gets another game, the decease is a white male aged between…” Holly paused before she glanced at Katie “what would you say dear, 25” Holly asked as Katie thought and looked at the body. Age meant something personal and so Katie hadn’t try to guess Steven’s age, now looking at him closely she saw that he was younger then herself, he still had that fresh look to his young features “no more then 25, maybe 22” Katie offered as her throat tighten at the thought of the young lose laying before her with his heart ripped out. Holly nodded in agreement and took a deep breath as her eyes fell back to Steven “estimated age between 22 and 25. There are multiple wounds to his face and upper arms; they resemble a claw mark or maybe teeth. The entire rib cage and upper torso has been ripped apart and on first glance I can see that all organs are in their correct place. The only thing that seems to be missing is the heart” holly grabbed a pair of forceps and pushing them into the chest pushed aside what Katie could only describe as muscles “strange” holly muttered as she lent in closer as to get a better look “what is” Wilbur couldn’t help but ask and Katie found herself leaning in closer “well I would have said this was an animal attack of some kind. The tearing of the skin around the main cavity would suggest that whatever animal did attack this man ripped the through the skin, muscles and the rib cage in one go. But looking at the organs and the veins leading to the heart I find no marks to suggest that any animal touched him. Everything inside is clean cut; the heart wasn’t ripped from the body. It looks as though it has been surgically removed” Holly looked up to see the same shocked look on the two faces before her.

It took a few seconds for Katie to regain the questions she was going to ask and another few seconds for her mouth to work “wait, no human could tear apart the chest with such force” Katie injected as Holly nodded and threw the bloodily forceps onto the sliver tray. “I’m saying that, no human did tear open this boy’s chest, but it was sure in hell a human that removed the heart. Probably to do as little damage as possibly, you might be looking for a black market sort of thing,” declared the doctor as she lent on the table “this doesn’t make sense” Katie was now muttering to herself and had forgotten about her companions but they had not forgotten about her for Wilbur was now staring at her, with his body turned towards her completely. Katie was now biting her thumb “Katie, what you thinking” Wilbur knew that what ever Katie was thinking was somehow connected to what ever she didn’t tell him at the crime scene “nothing, Wilbur, nothing” she declared before she looked up and tried her best to cover the confused look upon her face “um, thanks for this. I have to go” Katie muttered, already turning towards the door, Holly called out “your not going to stay for the rest of the autopsy” but Katie was already out the door.

As fast as Katie was, she wasn’t that fast. Not for Wilbur who was pushing through the doors straight after Katie and was already catching her arm as she walked towards the double set of doors leading to the early morning scene “what the hell is this Ions, twice you’ve zipped up on me. If this other case has anything to do with my case tonight I want to know, as of right now” when Wilbur wanted to he could be as scary as a werewolf leader. And Katie hated to admit it but she was beginning to become afraid of the normal gentle detective sergeant. Katie pulled her arm from him and sighed before straighten her back for a fight “look, I can’t tell everything but I can tell you that Steven Clifton was not killed for any black market” Katie admitted already rolling her eyes at the thought of giving too much away. But to Wilbur it still wasn’t enough “how the hell can you know” Katie knew that within a short while some way or the other he was going to find out that Steven Clifton did work at Moon Wonderers and that he was in fact a werewolf. What Katie was hoping for was that three more werewolves had been found dead “Steven Clifton, he was a werewolf, don’t ask me how or why I know this but he was a werewolf and he didn’t have any enemies” Katie felt relieved when Wilbur rubbed his chin in thought “he worked for Moon Wonderers didn’t he” Wilbur asked as Katie tilted her head as if to ask ‘are you joking’ but Wilbur took a stone face once more “Ions, if you fail to tell me anything that could help find the murderer of this kid then I’ll haul your ass in to jail before New Year” this was a threat that Katie knew was true. During her first year on the Spook Squad she failed to give Wilbur a piece of evidence, for which she was thrown in jail for a week. Thankfully the piece she had didn’t prove too important to the case and Katie learnt a hard lesson, don’t mess with Wilbur Hamilton. But that was near enough six years ago and Katie had wised up to the little traps Wilbur left out and she knew that by law Wilbur needed more to haul her ass in to jail and he didn’t have it “Wilbur I can’t tell you any more. Get a warrant and ask Julius” Katie ordered before she turned and walked away as fast as she could but Wilbur was still on her heel but not as fast. Once out side both were stopped when the door to a long black limo opened swiftly and a tall man wearing a dark green suit and black shoes slid out with a fluid movement that Katie knew belong to a werewolf. Trailing behind him was a long thermal coat and his shoulder length hair that seem very glossy in the hash streetlight. He smiled at the pair and Katie noticed the tips of pearly white canine teeth, meaning the full moon wasn’t that far away. And he didn’t just move with fluid movements but he spoke with a heavy German accent that seemed to float in a lulling way “Miss Ions, my name is Bertram. Julius set for you if you would please get in” Katie was either too tired or this werewolf was good at his ability to pursued people “I’m Detective Wilbur Hamilton,” and he produced his badge but Bertram just smiled and waved a slender hand “I indeed know who you are Detective, but Julius wishes to see Miss Ions alone. Though he would be helpful if you arrived at the club with a warrant” Bertram was smug because he knew that he was right and so did Wilbur because he shoved the badge away, which made Katie feel bad so she pulled a scrap piece of paper out of her pocket and a pen and scribbled Jason’s number down on it. Though Julius wouldn’t be stupid enough to do anything to her she would feel a whole lot much better if she knew that Wilbur had a way to contact the club “phone this number and tell Jason that I’ll be at the club” Katie told Wilbur as he nodded whilst taking the number. Bertram seemed very interested in the number but Wilbur shoved the paper into his pocket and squared himself off “I’ll call you later on Katie, make sure you made it back ok” Wilbur made a point to that statement, which Katie took in to account as she nodded then walked over to the car and slid in. Bertram stared at Wilbur while he slid back into the car and slammed the door shut in Wilbur’s face.
