APPLICATION DEADLINE: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2010 at 9:00 p.m.
The Rochester Flute Association will host a flute competition designed to identify the highest levels among itsstudent, emerging artist, and amateur membership. The competition is a live audition, and winners will perform ina recital during Flute Fair 2010. A cash prize will be awarded for each category.
General Information
Each performer will be allowed 12-15 minutes of total playing time including the required piece, and another pieceof the performer’s choosing. If necessary, the judges may ask the performer to stop before pieces are completed.The piece of the performer’s choosing may be accompanied or unaccompanied according to the requirementsbelow, and may be performed in any order of the performer’s choosing. Each performer is responsible forproviding his/her accompanist. Please be advised that this is a
closed audition.Applicants must have a current membership in the Rochester Flute Association,
and these dues areincluded in the competition application fee. There will be
no limit
on the amount of performers in any category, orfor the total competition.
Categories
High School
Grade 9-12 as of the 2010-2011academic year. Teacher’s signaturerequired.
College/Emerging Artist
Flutists of any age currently enrolledin any music degree/certificateprogram,
OR
who have completedsuch a program within the last 5years of the competition.
Adult
Anyone over the age of 18 as ofOctober 29, 2010 who does not fallinto the other two categories.
Repertoire Requirements
High School
1.) J.S. Bach,
Sonata in B Minor,BWV 1030
(mvts. 1, 3,and 4)2.) One piece of the applicant’schoosing (
accompaniment not required
); two contrastingmovements, if applicable.
College/Emerging Artist
1) Pierre Sancan,
Sonatine for Flute and Piano
2) One piece of the applicant’schoosing (
accompaniment not required
); two contrastingmovements, if applicable.
Adult
1) Paul Hindemith,
Acht Stücke
2) One
accompanied
piece of theapplicant’s choosing; twocontrasting movements, ifapplicable.
Winners & Awards
The RFA will award one cash prize in each category; however, the judges reserve the right to not award a prize inany category. Winners (and accompanists) will be required to perform
both pieces
in the Winners’ Recital onSaturday, October 30, 2010.*NEW* The High School category winner will receive $100, the Adult category winner will receive $150, and theCollege/Emerging Artist category winner will receive $200.
