 Welcome to the Youth Football Defensive Stat Keeper by
Coach Wade. Stat Keeper is a simple spreadsheet written
on Microsoft Excel. It's designed with the scaled down
youth defense in mind, but can be customized with a little
knowledge to be used with more complex systems.

Here's how to use Stat Keeper:

Step One: Adding Players

Click on the tab below labeled "Total Defense". You'll see a

section of the page that looks similar to what is above.
Anything you type in the blue and green squares will be
repeated on every game page. Type the names of your
defensive players and the position they play on defense in
on THIS PAGE ONLY. If you type them on the game day
pages, the program won't work. They'll appear
automatically on those pages. (Note: These colors appear
only on this page. The normal Stat Keeper page is grey
with white fill boxes.)

Don't type anything in the areas marked in red. These stats

will be updated automatically from your game pages. After
your first game, click on the tab labeled "Game One" and
enter your defensive totals for the game. (You can rename
these tabs by double clicking on them. Then you can
change the name of the tab to the name of your opponent.)

listed. They're just there as examples to show you how Stat
Keeper works.

Step Two: Game Day Stats

Once you are on the "Game One" tab, you should see a list
of your players. Type in your defensive stats, such as
number of tackles, fumbles recovered, etc. that each player
made. Stat Keeper will automatically transfer these
numbers to the "Total Defense" tab.

On the Game sheets, type only in the areas shown in red in

the diagram above. Until you place a number in each
square, Stat Tracker will show "0" in the equivalent box on
the "Total Defense" tab. This is because it has no values to
compute yet.

Step Three: Figuring Season Totals

Like Stat Tracker does for offense, Stat Keeper
automatically keeps track of your player's progress
throughout the season. If Mike, your middle linebacker,
makes nine tackles in game one, and seven tackles in
game three, when you enter the data for those games into
the tabs, the "Total Defense" sheet will be automatically
updated to reflect his new numbers. This way, figuring
season and game day goals and awards is a snap.
