James and Miranda sit in their living room on a stormy night.Both are visibly anxious. They peer out the windows as ifexpecting an important visitor.MIRANDA Maybe she won’t come James. Maybeshe got lost?JAMESShe couldn’t have gotten lost, weput so much raw meat out on thelawn. Every zombie in theneighborhood will be banging on ourdoor within the hour.MIRANDA Oh James I wish you didn’t use that word. It really upsets me.JAMESI’m sorry dear. I’m just soagitated right now. My mind’s sofrazzled I can hardly keep mytongue in line.MIRANDA It’s all right dear. Just do try tocensor yourself when Diana arrives.It’ll be hard enough to break thenews without you tossing slurs atthe poor girl.JAMESI can’t promise one or two offcolor remarks won’t slip throughtonight Miranda. It’ll be hard tosay everything we must.MIRANDA Yes she won’t like it at all. She’sgoing to be so disappointed withus. We’re the last friends she hasin the world James.JAMESShe’ll make plenty of new friendsin the Tomb Sanctuary.MIRANDA Yes. The Tomb Sanctuary will be ablessing for her cursed life.
James nods and puts his hand on Miranda’s shoulder. The twogaze at a portrait of a lovely girl hanging on the wall.There’s a loud bang on the door.JAMESCould that be our Diana?MIRANDA You ought to check dear. Can’t haveher catching a cold out there inthe rain.James looks at her.MIRANDA (CONT’D)Oh I’m sorry. What am I thinking?Her kind can’t catch colds canthey?JAMESNot that I’m aware of darling.James walks over and opens the door.JAMES (CONT’D)Oh great spirits!MIRANDA What is it James? Is Diana outthere?James slams the door shut.MIRANDA (CONT’D)James?JAMESHave a look for yourself Miranda.Look out the window and describe what you find.MIRANDA Oh, it isn’t something awful is it?You know how my afflictions get when I’m frightened.JAMESYes well perhaps it’s best not tolook then. Just don’t go outside inthe morning until I’ve cleaned upthe mess.MIRANDA Mess?
