"Fear of Speaking" which affects the majority of Americans results in unacceptable costs for our future. It not only limits citizen participation, it actually discourages it. This restraint on participating in public conversations can no longer be tolerated in a confused, caustic, and impotent political and social environment.

The rewards of overcoming this all-to-common "Fear" if it is a "fear", will result in the broadening of citizen participation in generating and spreading new ideas and solutions to complex challenges facing the international community. We all stand to gain each time a citizen overcomes their personal "fear of speaking" and participates in the conversation.

Note// I wrote this Article in the early stage of my education in Public Speaking and although I haven't changed my views substantially, I have since refined them through experience. My latest Article "The Fear of Speaking" - Toxic, is much more strident and less forgiving. -tjd
