MAKE MERDEKA DAY A DAY OF REFLECTION
'1Malaysia Transforming the Nation'
will be the theme for the 53rd national independencecelebration this year
Rakyat Didahulukan, Pencapaian Diutamakan
diyakini akan menjana satu transformasi ketara, kearah sebuah negara Malaysia yangmaju, didokongi oleh rakyat yang utuh perpaduan nya dan tinggi mertabatnya padapandangan dunia.
WE will soon be celebrating the 53rd year of independence. We mark it as the day we wonindependence from the British. Many Malaysians still regard the British rule as a blessing indisguise as they laid the foundation of prosperity for us as a nation. However, has Merdeka Day lost its lustre? Does it still stir up the same spirit of yesteryears? The youths of today are the generations X and Y who may have learnt from history of ourstruggle to become an independent nation but they cannot experience the spirit nor identifywith it.How are we going to give meaning to this important day? We have to rejuvenate the Merdekaspirit and I suggest we call this day a day of reflection so that we can understand where wecame from and where we, as a nation, are supposed to go.
(JUST PAUSE FOR A SECOND OR SO….AND REFLECT)
The day should not be celebrated with politicians telling us how great they are in winningindependence and saving us from the colonial masters. Such sloganeering and fist raising donot sell any more.Let Merdeka Day be a day when Malaysians make a new resolution to contribute to nation-building in the years ahead.
LET US BE PARTICIPANTS AND NOT JUST SPECTATORS.
