Aims
The aim of this unit is to enable you to:• distinguish between ‘innate’ and ‘learned’ approaches todevelopment• appreciate that there are few clear cut answers inpsychology• describe and discuss physiological and psychological innatereflexes• quote psychological evidence to demonstrate individualdifferences in newborn infants• identify evidence for early social behaviours and how thesechange during the first year of life• define cross-cultural studies
Context
The first module of this course takes you quickly through thechild’s experiences right from birth through to home, family andschool life. After this initial review we will focus on more specificissues of research and interpretation.
