Peterson Ruling
We are extremely disappointed by today's ruling from the Illinois Supreme Court which
continues to demonstrate, in our opinion, that there are two bodies of law in this state: the law
applied to most and the law as applied to Drew Peterson. Regardless of anyone's particular
opinion as to his innocence or guilt, the fact remains that we are a nation of laws in which all
individuals are entitled to a fair trial, competent counsel, and a decision based on admissible
evidence. When it comes to Mr. Peterson, the laws were changed, the rules were broken, and, in
some respects, trial counsel was deficient. The ruling today demonstrates that courts are willing
to overlook the obvious to achieve a certain result. As a nation of laws, this is a fundamentally
flawed premise, and if we operate in this manner, over time all of us will suffer.

Mr. Peterson is incarcerated in a federal penitentiary (another oddity in this case), so we have not
yet had an opportunity to provide him with a copy of the opinion or to review our next steps.
However, we certainly plan to take those next steps, including a likely appeal to the United
States Supreme Court.

Today marks the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah, which is being celebrated by all of his
counsel, and, therefore, we have no further comment but will be available for comment
tomorrow.
