Gender and Development: An Evaluation of World Bank Support, 2002-08

Gender issues have become increasing important in the development field. The World Bank has made efforts to increase the focus on gender in it's projects, but has it been enough? IEG released a new study on Gender and Development. This evaluation finds that the World Bank made progress in gender integration from 2002 to 2008, integrating gender concerns in more than half of the relevant projects. However, progress was qualified by findings that implementation of the policy, initially strong, weakened in the latter half of the review period.
