Its mission is to fght poverty orlasting results and to help people help themselves andtheir environment by providing resources, sharing knowl-edge, building capacity, and orging partnerships in thepublic and private sectors.

IMPROVING DEVELOPMENT RESULTSTHROUGH EXCELLENCE IN EVALUATION
he Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) is an indepen-dent, three-part unit within the World Bank Group.IEG-World Bank is charged with evaluating the activitieso the IBRD (The World Bank) and IDA, IEG-IFC ocuses onassessment o IFC’s work toward private sector develop-ment, and IEG-MIGA evaluates the contributions o MIGAguarantee projects and services. IEG reports directly to theBank’s Board o Directors through the Director-General,Evaluation. The goals o evaluation are to learn rom experience, toprovide an objective basis or assessing the results o theBank Group’s work, and to provide accountability in theachievement o its objectives. It also improves Bank Groupwork by identiying and disseminating the lessons learnedrom experience and by raming recommendations drawnrom evaluation fndings.
