A Very Secular Affair: The Power Struggle of Turkey's Elites

A Very Secular Affair: The Power Struggle of Turkey's Elites

Ratings: (0)|Views: 324|Likes:
This paper first describes the rise of the periphery elite; it will then shed light on the fears of the classical centrist elite. When necessary, it draws parallels to the development of a pious middle class in Egypt. Finally, it depicts the structural deficits of the Turkish political system that obstruct a smooth transition from the dominance of the classical elite to political competition in a democracy and a fair distribution of power in the country.
