n the 1980’s August was re-institutedas African Heritage Month, and sinceAugust 1979 it has been also calledBlack August in support of political and so-calledcriminal prisoners locked down in usa penitentiaries. There are many important events, birthdays andhistorical activities, which take ‘place during themonth of August ... far to many to mention here. The Right Excellent Marcus Mosiah Garvey’sbirthdate, August 17, 1887, and all the UNIA-ACLGovernment Conventions are held during the monthof August. This year August 19th thru August 25th, we are hosting our 52ndInternational Conventionin Detroit, Michigan.For 95 years the UNIA-ACL has maintained itself and worked to provide a ways and means to uplift theAfrican Race. This current administration, under myleadership as 9th successor to Marcus Garvey and the10th President-General, since being elected inAugust 2008, have chartered six (6) new Divisions. Three are in West Africa, one in Jamaica, one inAtlanta, Georgia, and the first ever cyberspaceDivision –Harambee Division 369. There are manymore to come and we are working hard to re-new,re-vibe, and re-establish more practical programs,recruit more members within our older and newDivisions around the world.As President-General, I shall continue to hold allaccountable to Race First service and the rule of Lawof the UNIA-ACL government for Africans aroundthe world. We shall continue to build positive andreputable working relationships with AfricanNationalists and Pan-African institutions andmovements the world over. Once again I wantto appeal to all reading this to take out yourmembership in the UNIA-ACL today, for wecontinue to remain committed to the original goalsand objectives of our founding mothers and fathers. The UNIA-ACL has experienced a great history inthe 20th century, however the 21 st century willbe even greater. We face many of the same 20thcentury problems and now in 2009, the conditionsconfronting our.African Race have gotten much morecritical. Self-Determination and Self-Reliance are thekeys to confronting and solving the problems weface with our own health and wellness, education,economic empowerment, nation building,communications, spiritual re-unification, andbasic survival in the 21 st century. This world we are in today has gotten drunker withcorruption, confusion, and white supremaist globalelitist oppression. Despite this we can, we must, we will, rise and return to our traditional greatness.It’s our labor which has enabled the world to be where it is today, and our great legacy which
