Tallman to host VINetching Event
My office will be holding a VIN(Vehicle Identification Number)etching event in conjunction withHanover Borough. The engraving session will take place, weather permitting, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.,on Saturday, Sept. 18, in the Giant parking lot, 455 Eisenhower Drive, Hanover. The VINetching procedure takes only five minutes and involves the use of a stencil and glass paste to etch a vehicle’s VIN number onto the windshield and windows. This event is an attempt toreduce that theft rate through increasing the rate of recovery.Since vehicle glass has no identification number, and is often readily interchangeable with manydifferent years and models of vehicle, there is a much greater profit for the thief compared to other components on the vehicle. Should an attempt to sell the parts from a vehicle for profit be made, those stamped parts carry a higher risk for both the thief and the auto parts seller. No appointment is necessary, the engraving process is free and will be performed by thePennsylvania Auto Theft Prevention Authority.
