Customize the System Tray

You can add your name or anything you like that consists of 8 characters or less. This
will replace the AM or PM next to the system time. But you can corrupt some trial
licenses of software that you may have downloaded.

1. Open RegEdit
2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International
3. Add two new String values, "s1159" and "s2359"
4. Right click the new value name and modify. Enter anything you like up to 8 characters.

If you enter two different values when modifying, you can have the system tray display
the two different values in the AM and PM.

Automatically Close Programs at Shutdown

When you shut down Windows, if you have any programs running you'll get a message
box warning you that a program is still running. You then have to close the program and
tell XP again to shut down. It's a fairly pointless warning—better yet would be if XP
automatically killed the programs without issuing the warning. That way, you wouldn't
get error messages and wouldn't have to close each individual application before shutting
down your computer.

To have XP automatically close programs at shutdown, run the Registry Editor and go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop. Edit the AutoEndTasks key so that is
has a value of 1. If the key doesn't exist, create it as a DWORD value and give it the
value of 1. To disable it, either delete the key, or set the value to 0.

Fix corrupted files in XP

Required:

1. Windows XP operating system

2. Windows XP cd

Now, follow this steps:

1. Place the xp cd in your cd/dvd drive
2. Go to start
3. run
4. type sfc /scannow and press ENTER

Now it should all load, and fix all your corrupted file on win XP

Setting a background image for the logon screen

1. Click the Start menu and select Run. Then type regedit in the box and click OK. This
will start up the Registry Editor.
2. Once the Registry Editor has loaded, you will want to expand HKEY_USERS,
.DEFAULT, Control Panel, and the Desktop key. Next, you should see all of the different
entries for desktop properties. The entries that you will be interested in are Wallpaper
and WallpaperStyle.
3. Right-click the Wallpaper entry and select Modify. Then type in the full path to the
image that you want to use on your computer. Let’s assume that you want to set the nice
grassy hills photo as your background. This file is located at C:\WINDOWS\Web\
Wallpaper. The name of the file is bliss.bmp. Therefore, the full path of the image
file is C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper\bliss.bmp.
4. Once you have the path to the file set, you can click the OK button to save the change.

Now you can change the WallpaperStyle entry if you want to change how the wallpaper
will be displayed. You have three different options: 0 centered, 1 tiled, 2 stretched to
full screen. If you want to change the way it is displayed, just right-click the

WallpaperStyle entry and select Modify, then enter the corresponding number value for
the style you want to use. Click OK to save, and you are finished!

Shutdown XP Faster

1) Start - Run - Regedit

Navigate to the following Registry key:
HKEY CURRENT USER\Control Panel\Desktop
Double click on the AutoEndTasks entry and replace the 0 with a 1 in the Value data text
box
For the next two, if the dword value indicated does not exist, create it:
Double click on the WaitToKillAppTimeout entry in the right pane and change the Value
data to 2000
Double click on the HungAppTimeout entry in the right pane and change the Value data
to 1000
Reboot
If still having a problem, make the next change:
2) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
Right-click on WaitToKillServiceTimeout and change it to 2000

NOTE: The lowest value Windows will recognize is 1000 (1 second)

ADVISORY: While rare, the "WaitToKillService" tweak can cause problems. If an

application is in the process of saving data and the associated service is stopped
prematurely, the data will not be saved and may be lost. (Tweak, Note and Advisory

Open with

When rightclicking any file you´re likely to see an option called "open with", which lists
any available program on you computer to open the file with. To simply clear up this list
of unwanted items, or to remove useless associations, like opening an mp3 file with a
paint program, follow these steps:

- Click on the start button, click on Run... and type the word "regedit" (without the
quotes) in the box that appears to open the registry editor
- Navigate to
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\File
Exts"
- Find the extention you wish to edit and click on the "+"-sign to locate the key that says
"OpenWithList"
- In the right pane of the registry editor you´ll see a list with the programs in the list, like
"paint.exe" or "notepad.exe"
- Simple click on the one you wish to delete and press the delete button on your keyboard

Don´t worry if you´ve removed an entry you rather hadn´t removed. When rightclicking a
file there will be another option in the "open with" extension where you can choose any
program on your computer. Once used, it will reappear in the list of associated programs.
Faster Application Access ever

Have you ever wanted to have your program shortcuts withing a clicks reach without
crowding the desktop? And do you have to many apps to pin them all to the start menu?
If so, then this might be a solution for you aswell.
1) Create a new folder anywhere you like and name it "Progz", "Gamez" or "Music"
according to your will and pleasure.
2) Place shortcuts of the stuff you need into this folder.
3) Right-click on the windows tastbar and select "toolbars" and "New toolbar". Then you
simply refer to your "Progz" folder.

And there you have it... all your applications within a clicks reach.... and a clean desktop
aswell. I have my menues minimized, so I only see the names of the categories or folders,
and then locked the taskbar, making room for the active applications to be shown.

Adding new items to the toolbar is done simply by copying or creating shortcuts into the
original folder, then your menu updates itself.

This can also be a good way of organizing applications into different categories... you
just make seperate toolbars

If you cannot boot your SYSTEM

Use system restore when you cannot boot your SYSTEM.

If your system has failed to the point where you cannot access the Windows GUI either
through booting normally or through safe mode, you may still have the chance to use the
System Restore feature if you have it enabled, by running it form the command prompt.
To do this:

Restart your computer and press F8 after the POST screen to bring up the Windows XP
boot menu. Choose 'boot in safe mode with command prompt.'
If your system gets to the command prompt successfully, type '%systemroot
%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe' and then press enter. Follow the onscreen instructions to
restore your computer to a previous saved point.

Change Ur drive icon

Associate an icon with a drive

To set the icon of any drive (hard disk, cd rom or anything else) with a letter (C:\ etc.),
run REGEDIT (Start -> Run -> regedit)

Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explore
r
If one doesn't already exist, create a new KEY called "DriveIcons". Under this key, create
a new key with the letter of your drive.
I.e. C for your C:\ drive.

To change the icon for that drive, create a key inside that one called DefaultIcon and set
the path of (Default) to the location of your icon

eg C\DefaultIcon\
then (Default) = D:\Documents\C Drive Icon.ico

To change the name of that drive, create a key in the drive letter one (eg C\) called
DefaultLabel and set the (Default) to what you want the drive to be called.
This is useful if you want to assign a long name to the floppy drive.

SPEED UP UR ACROBAT READER

Do u get irritated when acrobat reader takes 5/10 seconds to load when you want to open
a pdf document. There is a way to speed up the loading.

1. Go to the installation folder of acrobat reader

(C:\program files\adobe\acrobat\reader\.. whatever)

2. Move all the files and folders from the "plugins" directory to the "Optional" directory.

Now your acrobat reader will load very fast

and almost as good as notepad..
Block websites without any software

Steps
1] Browse C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
2] Find the file named "HOSTS"
3] Open it in notepad
4] Under "127.0.0.1 localhost" Add 127.0.0.2 www.orkut.com , and that site will no
longer be accessable.
5] Done!
example :

127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.2 www.orkut.com

- www.orkut.com is now unaccessable

For every site after that you want to add, just add "1" to the last number in the internal ip
(127.0.0.2) and then the addy like before.
IE:
127.0.0.3 www.yahoo.com
127.0.0.4 www.msn.com
127.0.0.5 www.google.com

This also works with banner sites, just find the host name of the server with the banners
and do the same thing with that addy.

SEND YOUR FRIENDS A SECRET FILE

Well, did you know you could hide your files in a JPEG file? For this, you will only need
to download WinRAR. You just need to have a little knowledge about Command Prompt
and have WinRAR installed.
STEPS : -
1. Gather all the files that you wish to hide in a folder anywhere in your PC (make it in
C:\hidden (RECOMMENDED).
2. Now, add those files in a RAR archive (e.g. partha.rar). This file should also be in the
same directory (C:\hidden).
3. Now, look for a simple JPEG picture file (e.g. cyber.jpg). Copy/Paste that file also in
C:\hidden.
4. Now, open Command Prompt (Go to Run and type ‘cmd‘). Make your working
directory C:\hidden.
5. Now type: “COPY /b cyber.jpg + partha.rar output.jpg” (without quotes) - Now,
cyber.jpg is the picture you want to show, partha.rar is the file to be hidden, and
output.jpg is the file which contains both.
6. Now, after you have done this, you will see a file output.jpg in C:\hidden. Open it
(double-click) and it will show the picture you wanted to show. Now try opening the
same file with WinRAR, it will show the hidden archive .

Self Destructive msgs are those which destroy automatically after a particular time or
after reading by the receiver.
This means, once receiver read the message he will no longer be able to read it again after
the timer has reached zero.
This ensures your message is read by no one but the reader and all evidence of the
message is erased.
Messages are also anonymous unless you add any identifiable information to your
message.

INCREASE UR SYSTEM PERFORMANCE

If you have 512 megs or more of memory,

u can increase system performance
by having the core system kept in memory
steps are
Start Regedit
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
Manager\Memory Management\DisablePagingExecutive
Set the value to be 1
Reboot the computer

Try this to save Memory

Use active desktop to save memory used by wallpapers

When you choose a wallpaper using the standard method (selecting a background on the
desktop tab, in the properties window),
Windows converts this image to a huge .bmp file (even if you selected a .jpg).
Then instead of having a nice 220K wallpaper, you get a 3,15MB wallpaper. To get rid of
this,
try using active desktop's web capabilities, like this:

1. Right click on your desktop and select "properties", then select the "desktop" tab.
2. Click on "Customize Desktop".
3. Select the "Web" tab and click on "New..."
4. Browse for your favorite image and click OK when you are done.
5. Make sure "Lock desktop items" is uncheck.
6. Click OK, and OK again.
7. Now your image is like another window. Drag it to where you want and then right clik
over it.
8. Select "arrange icons by" and the check "Lock Web Items on Desktop".
9. That's it. Now you have a "low memory usage wallpaper".

With this you can make interesting things, like using various small wallpapers,
or even animated ones!! (you can select an animated .gif too!!). Simply select various
images,
and when you click OK, drag all them to its right location, and lock the content again.
PS: If you want to check the huge wallpaper windows makes, select a wallpaper the
standard way,
then browse to "C:\Documents and Settings\USER PROFILE\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft" (where USER PROFILE,
is the profile you're using, i.e. Administrator). There should be a file called
Wallpaper.bmp,
open it and you'll see your cureent wallpaper.

Boot Window XP SUPERFAST

Follow the following steps

1. Open notepad.exe, type "del c:\windows\prefetch\ntosboot-*.* /q" (without the quotes)

& save as "ntosboot.bat" in c:\
2. From the Start menu, select "Run..." & type "gpedit.msc".
3. Double click "Windows Settings" under "Computer Configuration" and double click
again on "Shutdown" in the right window.
4. In the new window, click "add", "Browse", locate your "ntosboot.bat" file & click
"Open".
5. Click "OK", "Apply" & "OK" once again to exit.
6. From the Start menu, select "Run..." & type "devmgmt.msc".
7. Double click on "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"
8. Right click on "Primary IDE Channel" and select "Properties".
9. Select the "Advanced Settings" tab then on the device or 1 that doesn't have 'device
type' greyed out select 'none' instead of 'autodetect' & click "OK".
10. Right click on "Secondary IDE channel", select "Properties" and repeat step 9.
11. Reboot your computer.

Alter Prefetch Parameters

Prefetching (the reading of system boot files into a cache for faster loading) is a
commonly overlooked component that can have a significant impact on system boot time.
This tweak allows you to select which components will make use of the prefetch
parameters. To see which files are gathered using each of the settings, clear the prefetch
cache located at C:\Windows\Prefetch and then enable one of the settings listed in this
hack. Clear the cache and repeat for each setting.

Set the Registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters\EnablePrefetcher to 0 to disable
prefetching, 1 to prefetch application launch files, 2 to prefetch boot files, or 3 to prefetch
as many files as possible.

Speed Up Shutdown Times

It's not only startup times that you'd like to speed up; you can also make sure that your
system shuts down faster. If shutting down XP takes what seems to be an inordinate
amount of time, here are a couple of steps you can take to speed up the shutdown process:
Don't have XP clear your paging file at shutdown
For security reasons, you can have XP clear your paging file (pagefile.sys) of its contents
whenever you shut down. Your paging file is used to store temporary files and data, but
when your system shuts down, information stays in the file. Some people prefer to have
the paging file cleared at shutdown, because sensitive information such as unencrypted
passwords sometimes ends up in the file. However, clearing the paging file can slow
shutdown times significantly, so if extreme security isn't a high priority, you might not
want to clear it. To shut down XP without clearing your paging file, run the Registry
Editor and go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
Manager\Memory Management
Change the value of ClearPageFileAtShutdown to 0. Close the Registry and restart your
computer. Whenever you turn off XP from now on, the paging file won't be cleared, and
you should be able to shut down more quickly.

Turn off unnecessary services

Services take time to shut down, so the fewer you run, the faster you can shut down.

Performance
Keep high preformance and keep the GUI
To increase system performance and keep the GUI:

1. Right click my computer.

2. Click properties.
3. Click advanced.
4. Click settings (under performance).
5. Click Adjust for best performance.
6. Scroll to the bottom and check the last one “use visual styles on windows and buttons”.
NOTE: This will switch XP to Classic View

Permanent Acceleration Fix

It seems that even without pointer precision disabled, the mouse under XP is still
influenced by an acceleration curve. This is especially noticeable in games. To
completely remove mouse acceleration from XP, you will need to go into the registry and
adjust the SmoothmouseXYCurve values. Here is how its done.
1. Click Start button
2. Select Run
3. Type 'regedit' in the open textbox
4. Open the tree 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER', select control panel, then select mouse
5. Right clicking, modify the SmoothMouseXCurve and SmoothMouseYCurve
hexidecimal values to the following:
SmoothMouseXCurve:
00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00
00,a0,00,00,00,00,00,00
00,40,01,00,00,00,00,00
00,80,02,00,00,00,00,00
00,00,05,00,00,00,00,00
SmoothMouseYCurve:
00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00
66,a6,02,00,00,00,00,00
cd,4c,05,00,00,00,00,00
a0,99,0a,00,00,00,00,00
38,33,15,00,00,00,00,00
If done correctly, you will notice you are holding a markedly more responsive mouse.

Unload .dll's to Free Memory

Windows Explorer caches DLLs (Dynamic-Link Libraries) in memory for a period of
time after the application using them has been closed. This can be an inefficient use of
memory.

1. Find the key

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explor
er].
2. Create a new sub-key named 'AlwaysUnloadDLL' and set the default value to equal '1'
to disable Windows caching the DLL in memory.
3. Restart Windows for the change to take effect.

Speed-Up File Browsing

You may have noticed that every time you open “My Computer” to
browse folders that there is a slight delay. This is because Windows
XP automatically searches for network files and printers every time
you open Windows Explorer. To fix this and to increase browsing
speed significantly:

1. Double-click on My Computer
2. Click the Tools menu
3. Select Folder Options
4. Click on the View tab.
5. Uncheck the Automatically search for network folders and
printers check box
6. Click Apply
7. Click OK
8. Reboot your computer

Increase virtual memory and ur pc speed

Reduce Page File Size

Page file size is not constant by default. Due to this, the operating
system has to resize the file each time more space is required. This
is a performance overhead. All you have to do is to set the file size to
a reasonable limit.

Follow the steps:

1. Right-click My Computer, Select Properties

2. Click the Advanced tab
3. Click the Settings button under the Performance section
4. Click the Advanced tab
5. Under the VirtualMemory section click the Change button
6. "Virtual Memory"dialogue box will appear(also shown in the figure
below)
7. Highlight the C: drive containing page file
8. Select the Custom Size
radio button and give
same values in Initial
size and Maximum size fields:
If you have less than 512MB of memory, leave the page file at its default size. If you
have 512MB or more, change the ratio to 1:1 page file size to physical memory size.
9. Click Set, then OK buttons to apply the changes

How to remove your pendrive virus??

This is a simple batch file. It’s used prevent the computer from getting the pendrive virus.
It’s a prevention method; not a disinfection method.
But disinfect your pen drive alone.
First the virus is disinfected, then opening the pen drive using explorer. It’s always good
idea to open the content after deleting the virus.

00 k: [pen drive mount point]

01 attrib -s -h -r *
02 attrib -s -h -r /S /D *exe
03 del *inf
04 del new*exe
05 del reg*exe
06 del *ill*vbs
07 explorer k:\ [pen drive mount point]

in line 01 you are making the virus atribute to delete.

then deleting malwares using some wild cards, etc.,
make it as a batch file and use it to access the pen drive.

As a hacker one should capable of removing the virus manually. Not using the Anti Virus
tools.
Do you think it’s easy to delete the virus just by delete key. Even you deleted it SOME
VIRUS MAY NOT DELETE. Some virus are WRITE PROTECTED.
so use this given below commands

K:\New Folder>attrib -s -h -r /S /D *exe

K:\New Folder>DEL /S *exe
Deleted file - K:\New Folder\new.exe
Deleted file - K:\New Folder\New Folder\new.exe

use wildcards and flas the extract the virus file.

Save the “any.exe” [normal your file] as “any” without extension. when using copy
system where you need and change extenstion by just renaming.

use effective and simple way people. This also erases the “write-protected” virus. ]

Banned from Adsense

Dont ever get banned from adsense if you have clicked your ads,by mistake…follow this
technique

The way I keep this from happening is I temporarily block the domain name Google’s
ads are served from.

First, find your HOSTS file which depends on which os you are using.
Open Notepad or any text editor. Go to File, and Choose Open.

If you have Windows 95, 98, or ME browse to the folder

“C:\windows”

If you have Windows XP Home browse to the folder

“C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc”

If you have anything else (Windows XP Pro, Windows 2000, NT,

2003, etc.) browse to the folder:
“C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc”

Once you’re there, open the file called “hosts”.If you don’t see anything listed just type
the word hosts and the file should open up.Just the word “hosts”, no extension or
anything after that. It’s probably blank but it might not be.
Add this line:
127.0.0.1 pagead2.googlesyndication.com
And save.
You’re done.

Now go back to a site that you know has some Google Ads.There should be an empty
space where the ads appeared.

Want to turn it off?

Don’t just delete it, put a “#” sign in front of that line, like this which is equivalent to
commenting the statement:
# 127.0.0.1 pagead2.googlesyndication.com

What’s that do? It basically says “ignore this line.” I like to leave it like that so when I
want to hide Google Ads again, all I have to do is remove the “#” sign and save –
then put the “#” back in when I’m ready to go back to normal.

To me, making a quick change in your HOSTS file to turn AdSense on and off is easier
than fiddling around with a firewall program.
Hope this helps.

Disable 8.3 Name Creation in NTFS

Files that use the 8.3 naming convention can degrade NTFS drive performance. Unless
you have a good reason for keeping the 8.3 naming convention intact (such as if you're
using 16-bit programs), a performance gain can be achieved by disabling it:

Set the Registry DWORD key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem\NtfsDisa
ble8dot3NameCreation to 1. Exit the Registry and reboot.

▓[Trick]Lock any folder widout any soft.▓

Quickly open START Button

Menu Speed:
When XP first appeared, there was a lot of conversation about the new interface, both
good and bad. In spite of the initial complaints, most users stick with the default settings
rather than reverting to the Classic interface found in previous Windows versions. But
you may want to change the delay you notice when you click on the Start Menu. I see no
reason for there to be any delay when I click on the Start Menu. Effects are pretty, but I
wouldn't click on it if I didn't have business inside, so let's get it open and get moving.
The default speed can be adjusted with a quick Registry hack.

Go to the Registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control

Panel\Desktop\MenuShowDelay. The default value is 400. Set it to 0 to remove the delay
completely, but if you do that it will be nearly impossible to move the mouse fast enough
not to activate All Programs if you mouse over it en route to your final selection. Pick a
number that suits your style, make the change, then test it until you find a good
compromise between speed and usability.

Create a text file of your own size.

Create a text file of your own size.

This Trick will work only if you have an administrator privileges.
Go to Command Prompt(go to run type cmd ).
Type The following command " fsutil file createnew drivename:\filename.txt filesize in
bytes"without quotes.
for e.g
fsutil file createnew D:\hello.txt 1000000000.
this will create the file hello.txt with the size of 953 mb in drive D.
That's it Enjoy :

Alpha Numerical arrangement in window

Window XP sorts files in an ascending order which have digits in their file name.
Like document ‘ajay151.doc’ listed after ajay15.doc and ajay16.doc.

But if you want to arrange them like this ajay15.doc, ajay151.doc, ajay16.doc,
ajay161.doc then you has to set registry, after that OS will access all characters as
alphabets.

Procedure:-
1)Open the Registry Editor and navigate the key.
“HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \
Policies \ Explorer”
2)Create new entry “NoStrCmpLogical” using ‘Edit | New | DWORD value’.
3)Then open it and set the value data ‘1’ in the “Edit DWORD value” Window and click
OK.
4)Next step you know….so do it. Restart your PC to see registry set effect.

Many Computer users don’t know about the power management system of window xp

If we are doing our job on computer and by mistake we or someone else (may be child)

Delete the Undeletable file

Often we find that when trying to delete a file, windows replies that XP can not be
removed because the file is being used by another program.
To solve this problem open a command prompt window (Start - Run - cmd)
And leave it open now close any programs you have open
Press ctrl + alt + del to open task manager and go to process. finish the process
"explorer.exe", and close task manager.
We return to the command prompt window and browse to the folder where the file you
want to eliminate or delete (file which was not getting deleted) and write:
The filename then open task manager, File> New task and typed "explorer.exe" (without
quotation marks) to reset the desktop. And we can close the task manager and the
command window.

Block websites without any software

Steps
1] Browse C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
2] Find the file named "HOSTS"
3] Open it in notepad
4] Under "127.0.0.1 localhost" Add 127.0.0.2 www.orkut.com , and that site will no
longer be accessable.
5] Done!
example :
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.2 www.orkut.com
- www.orkut.com is now unaccessable

For every site after that you want to add, just add "1" to the last number in the internal ip
(127.0.0.2) and then the addy like before.
IE:
127.0.0.3 www.yahoo.com
127.0.0.4 www.msn.com
127.0.0.5 www.google.com
This also works with banner sites, just find the host name of the server with the banners
and do the same thing with that addy.
