Feng Shui and the Supernatural

By Richard Yu

A lot of articles and discussions can be found about the subjects feng shui and the
supernatural but there has been very little information about both under one topic. Let
us then explore how feng shui and the supernatural affect our lives.

Feng Shui is known by the average person as that unique Chinese way of creating luck
while the supernatural is commonly associated with ghosts and the unknown.

Feng Shui can trace its roots to Vastu and was adapted by the Chinese emperors and
certain close friends of it initially for its dead. Hence, the first application of feng shui is
for those who are in the afterlife – known as yin feng shui then. This secret was later
used by the Chinese leaders on the living on the bent to further enhance and preserve
their power. This is what most now encounter and is known as yang feng shui.

The term supernatural means something that cannot be explained by the laws of nature.
This is properly associated more with God and His angels while those of the spirits,
ghosts, elementals, demons and devils – otherwise known as fallen angels – are
preternatural. The main difference being that God is able to create something out of
nothing while preternatural is creating something new from something existing.

As my professional experience is more of the yang feng shui type, I will be focusing
more on that.

Chi being the cosmic energy which is present in everything and everywhere is what
links both feng shui and the unnatural – for the lack of a better term for something that is
not normal. There are three types of chi: positive, negative and neutral. Naturally, we
enhance the positive to better benefit us, limit or negate the negative to avoid problems
and realize the amount of neutral chi present so we know how much more we need to
improve upon.

Whenever one does a feng shui audit, he opens himself to possible serious negative
chi. Hence, it is never wise to confront a problem without having an idea what you are
going to face. There is also no shortcut if you want seriously effective results or do a
good and proper audit.

Taking a leaf from the Art of War by Sun Tzu, we learn that it is best to know the enemy
and yourself so that you would win every battle. Thus, you not only check the subject or
person but everything associated with it either directly or indirectly. For a place, you
observe the neighbourhood it is in, its history and even those who live there. A person
requires the same amount of effort be done and you need to factor too its karma. Is he
paying someone’s karma debt or is it his?

Feng shui speaks of luck and luck is divided into three aspects: divine, man and nature.
All three play a major role too when it comes to the discussion of the unnatural. And it
is from these do we find the solution too.

When something unexplainable has happened to a place or person its best to first make
sure that that is as so. You exhaust all possible questions which may explain the
situation scientifically. Only after such work should you even consider tackling the
situation in a different light.

From experience, a haunted place has either a serious bad history or someone who
resided or work there introduced serious amount of negative chi. Mostly, this can be
linked to the occult. The common one being a spirit of the glass or Ouija board activity.
Another would be the conduction of séances. Others would be to resorting to the occult
to solve problems such as witchcraft like doing some seemingly harmless spells for
love, money and fame.

Now, how can such a seemingly harmless act introduce loads of bad chi to a person or
place? For such an act opens a door for something unnatural to come into your place
and/or life. Inviting something yin and seriously negative is a real high possibility.

Note that feng shui doesn’t promote any religion. It only requires that one must have a
strong faith in God for He is the source of an all-powerful chi that addresses both yin
and yang factors. Going against this principle therefore introduces to your life chi from
questionable sources. Hence, exploring the forbidden arts opens you to serious
danger. And the definition of yin and yang which is the foundation of feng shui
highlights this best.

Infestation is the first stage wherein your patience is tested to its limit. Oppression or
obsession is the second stage wherein either you succumb to the temptation or pested
in life by unexplainable events. The final stage is possession where you are no longer
in control of the situation. If you are unlucky, death is the fourth stage and this spells
doom not only for you but also for those who were with you as they are the next targets.

These are serious issues where you will find so-called feng shui experts greatly avoid at
all cost. This is also why yin feng shui solutions must be performed only by really
experienced practitioners. For not only does the practitioner tinker with the fate of the
future generations but also the influence of the unknown in their lives. Those that think
such isn’t in the realm of feng shui better think again. Basic protections used and
performed are attuned primarily for such and solving normal situations is a secondary
effect. Take for example the bagua. The very fact that a mirror is usually found in the
middle of the bagua with i-ching symbols on the eight sides means it traps and repels
unwanted chi that is not usually sensed by the 5 senses. Cleansing rituals using
mantras, incense and sound are also for such. Yet, to best utilize these to remedy or
repel such situations from happening requires proper combination after doing one’s
homework.

Do note that feng shui was formulated by monks and scholars. It wasn’t shared openly
not only due to the selfish motives of those that initiated the work, the emperors, but
also due to the nature of what one may face as there are situations wherein an ordinary
person may not only possibly believe does happen but also not able to walk away from.
Rituals and tools that seem mystical in nature do have special purposes. And this is
also why feng shui was first applied to the dead. That the departed may find peace and
not be victimized in the afterlife. This is also why New Age solutions will never work.
For serious problems requires serious solutions and quack methods may even magnify
the seriousness of the problem. Shortcuts are just another way of avoiding the problem.
You confront the problem instead of avoiding it.

When a place or person is subject to the ill effects of such kind of negative chi, the basic
layout or character of the subject if it is a person can overcome or be a victim to such.
Speaking from experience, a place which has lots of contradictions to what is right in
yang feng shui not only traps that negative chi but can even magnify it. And the area
which has the most of this inauspicious features is where that sort of negative chi is felt
most. A person which is in such a place and has some serious issues with himself will
not only exhibit negative traits but may also infect others with him. This was so on the
infamous Amityville Horror case.

Thus, feng shui is more than just some mystical Eastern concept of bringing luck to
someone. It also speaks of keeping that wall separating the living and the dead up.
