WHEREAS

, last August 20, 2010, around 50 high school and college studentsheld a peaceful protest in front of the main office of the Department of Education in PasigCity in order to air the very common grievance of many students and their parentsregarding the implementation by many schools of illegal and exorbitant fees;

WHEREAS

, the students, many of whom belong to youth groups League of Filipino Students and Anakbayan, also sought to have a dialogue with the Secretary of Education in order to formally express their complaints;

WHEREAS

, when the students attempted to assert their right to air theirgrievance to the Secretary of Education by entering the premises of the Department’smain office, they were confronted with the brute force of the security personnel insteadof being accommodated;

WHEREAS

, at least five of the students, all of them minors, were injured andtaken to the hospital after sustaining cuts and bruises from the assault of theDepartment’s security personnel, who were armed with wooden sticks and other similarobjects and weapons;
