3 product quality performance and business performance in the electronics industry inMalaysia. Given the nature of this study, the statistical analysis technique calledStructural Equation Modelling was used. This preliminary result suggests that there isinsufficient statistical evidence to conclude significant simple relationships betweenTQM, product quality performance, and business performance. This implies that theelectronics industry cannot assume direct causal linkages between these threeconstructs, which might also suggest that there is a more complex relationship between TQM, product quality performance, and business performance. However, theresults reveal that top management commitment, supplier relations and training in particular appear to be of primary importance for TQM practices in Malaysianelectronics companies.
The characteristics of TQM, as revealed from above definition are as follows:
TQM is customer oriented.
TQM requires a long term commitment for continuous improvement of all processes.
The success of TQM demands the leadership of top management and continuousinvolvement.
Responsibility for establishments and improvement of systems lies with themanagement of an organisation.
TQM is a strategy for continuously improving performance at all levels and in allareas of responsibility.
