MLA STYLE: Citing Your Source
In MLA style, you refer to the works of others in two ways: in your text (parenthetically) and in the workscited list at the end of your essay. The examples below will demonstrate the format for a number of resourcetypes, but you should also consider using NoodleTools or EasyBib (why reinvent the wheel?!)
Parenthetical Citations:
The purpose of in-text citations is to point your reader to the correct documentationin the Works Cited list. Generally, it will be author’s last name and page number, unless the author’s name wasincluded in the sentence. Then just use the page number:
EXAMPLE:
Although he acknowledges there are contradictions, Walforth states “most scientists believe inglobal warming” (83). (NOTE THE PERIOD GOES AT THE VERY END!)
