“Regardless of whether people want to get into journalism or are just looking for something to doon the side for fun, the DTH can be the place for all those interests to meet. You can put in as much as youwant to get out; if you’re not serious about becoming a serious journalist there’s still a place for you at the DTH — and if you want to become the next editor of the New York Times, well, the DTH is the place to start and to rise in the ranks.”

Q: Do I need an previous experience on a newspaper?A:
No. The Dail Tar Heel is a teaching paper, and the editors are read and willing to help new sta members learn newskills. We will teach ou how to do anthing on the paper that ou want to learn how to do. I ou worked or our highschool paper or another campus paper ou can include some o those clips with our application, but it is not necessar.Applicants should provide a sample o their work specic to the desks applied or.
Q: What positions are available?A:
New sta members can appl to an o the ollowing desks: Universit, Cit, State & National, Arts, Sports, Diversions,Cop, Photo, Design, Graphics, Online, Multimedia.
Q: What is the time commitment?A:
Each desk is structured dierentl. In most cases, reshman staers will work one da per week their rst semester, and others will work two das per week. Joining the DTH is something ou can do in addition to other activities on cam-pus. you will be able to choose our own work das to t the DTH in with our class schedule. I ou work on the newsdesks (Universit, Cit, or State & National) ou should come into the oce rst thing in the morning to get our assign-ment and begin working. you are expected to update our editors on our stor throughout the da.
Q: Will I get the desk I want?A:
The application asks ou to prioritize our top three desk choices. I ou don't get our rst choice, there's a processor switching desks ater a semester.
Q: Where is the newsroom?A:
The new DTH is on the bottom foor o 151 E. Rosemar St. That’s behind the Franklin Street post oce.
Q: Can I join other groups?A:
yes. The DTH does not want to limit our opportunities, although our activities cannot violate the confict o interestpolic. As a general rule, ou cannot be a member o Student Government, and ou cannot hold a top leadership posi-tion in an group. I ou have questions about groups ou belong to, talk to the editor or a managing editor about ourspecic case.
