The study aims at finding the current scenario of Medical Tourism and also to get anoverview of the healthcare industry in India. The survey also aims at finding out the performance of various hospitals in the region based on certain parameters andcriteria¶s to judge the market viability of medical tourism. But in order to fullappreciate the survey one needs to understand the term Medical Tourism ad thecurrent Indian and Global scenario of Medical tourism and its practices in India.Medical Tourism (also called medical travel, health tourism or global healthcare) is aterm initially coined by travel agencies and the mass media to describe the rapidly-growing practice of travelling to another country to obtain health care.Such services typically include elective procedures as well as complex specializedsurgeries such as joint replacement (knee/hip), cardiac surgery, dental surgery andcosmetic surgery. The provider and customer use informal channels of communication ±connection ± contract, with less regulatory or legal oversight toassure quality and less formal resource to reimbursement or redress, if needed.Leisure aspects typically associated with travel and tourism may be included on suchmedical travel trips. Prospective medical tourism patients need to keep in mind theextra cost of travel and accommodation when deciding on treatment locations.A specialized subset of medical tourism is reproductive tourism, which is the practiceof travelling abroad to undergo in-vitro fertilization and assisted reproductivetechnology treatments.
