Re: Selection of a new Member of the Court of Common Council and Council
President

Dear Council Members:

The Hartford Democratic Town Committee has become concerned with the lack of
progress in selecting a replacement to Councilperson Pedro Segarra and filling the position
of Council President. Hartford has just weathered a very difficult few years and faces many
critical challenges in the coming days. This is the juncture when statesmanship, unity and
leadership is paramount. Each of you has been entrusted with a duty to help steer our City
to the best of your ability. Selecting new leadership and a new member are responsibilities
key to fulfilling that task.

To that end, the Hartford Democratic Town Committee has interviewed potential
candidates for the open seat on City Council. We are aware that selecting a new member
is alone the job of you and the other members of the Council. We view our role as
creating a open public forum where interested individuals may introduce themselves and
their vision for Hartford possibly for the first time. This was meant as a resource for your
selection process. The two candidates with the highest raking is Raul DeJesus and
Arnaldo Sierra.

As for the selection of a new Council President, we believe that the City has suffered
for too long a crisis of leadership. It is time for all of us to place personal ambition and
advancement aside and place the interests of the City foremost. We must show not only
the City but the State that consensus and momentum have returned to our leadership.

It is with the best interests of our City that we address you and have faith that you
will receive it and act accordingly in this spirit.

Very truly yours,

vDefnC'eratic Town Committe
