OIKOPOLIS is an association with interesting in environmental and cultural

activities. There are a quite significant number of young Oikopolis members
that are concerned about environmental issues. They are preparing the
programme entitled “ Stratokopoi discover the paths on Mount Poikilo in West
Athens”, in cooperation with OIKOPOLIS members who are experienced in
environmental issues.
Most of them take initiatives to participate in various activities either on their
own or under adult guidance. This period, our young people are dealing with
climate change, and are organizing joint activities in order to save the planet and
discover the Poikilo Mountain.
Our club OIKOPOLIS has been interested in cooperating with a European country
in learning new methods such as how our European colleagues work with the young
people of their country, in order to the young people of their culture better. We
want to communicate with other teenagers from Europe to exchange ideas.
Our aim is encourage the young to use the European languages so as to improve
their linguistic skills and be familiar with a language of another country.
Taking into account the importance of the intercultural dialogue, we would like to
create the relationship with the Europeans of different countries to meet and
get to know each other as better as we can.
During this project, young and older members of the two countries will work
together on a common field to accomplish a common final project. During this
project, we can communicate through our blog http://xpolis.blogspot.com and
http://stratokopoi.wordpress.com .
Groups of citizens interested in the world problems of environment will write
articles and they will have live communication. The co-operation is a good
opportunity to meet, to compare and contrast the images of ourselves with the
perception of other nations. We wish to see ourselves from a foreign perspective
as well as to compare and contrast our own images with those of our European
partners
The main aim of this project is to explore cultural differences in Europe. While
working on the project, we want to promote and implement the idea of inter-
cultural education, which would allow us to create an appropriate attitude towards
cultural differences, teach tolerance, respect and openness towards one other.
By applying various forms of co-operation we want to create a European map
showing cultural heritage and landscapes through different points of view.
The citizens that are interested in the environment will exchange information and
will have the opportunity to share ideas and know-how about environmental issues.
The dialogue, partnership and cultural exchange between the young members will
be encouraged at the meetings of partners in Greece and in France, as well as at
their electronic communication,. At the end of the exchange programme the
bases for long-lasting networking will have been placed, mainly via the internet
site that will have been created.
The aim of the project is to enable young people to cooperate creatively and
involve other young people in this process. Active participation and taking
initiatives are of major importance. The young people from Greece and France
are going to explore Mount Poikilo on foot, record existing paths and suggest,
in meetings with local authorities, placing of signs that will show information
about the paths and the mountain. A video with pictures and suggestions – in
Greek and in English- will be created. The material will also be available in
OIKOPOLIS events and in the respective events that Oikopolis coorganizes
with the organization FRIENDS OF NATURE and other NGOs in Greece.

The president of OIKOPOLIS Mr.Kostas Foteinakis, Mrs.Sofia Dimitriou, advisor

of environmental education, and other professors, will undertake the project co-
ordination.
We have experience in exchange projects as Comenius and other youth European
projects.
We would like to have cooperation with an association from your area. We are
looking forward to hearing from you.
