EDITOR’S LETTER
I
t’s been a long time coming, andwe’ve had to bite our tongues tokeep some o the surprises a secret, but at last the

iPad appwill soon be upon us. Released withthis issue (#35), though it isn’t in the App Store quite on the same launchdate while we tinker with a couple o things behind the scenes and awaitapproval, welcome the knowledge thatit will be available or download very, very soon.We think or a small indie maga-zine like

just to hitthe iPad at all, with our own custom,sel-designed and coded app, is anachievement in itsel, but o what theteam have ended up creating, I amtruly proud.Come next month, we’ll havebeen around or ve years. Launchingback in September 2005 as one o thevery rst digital magazines around;the magazine has undergone a hugeamount o development, a handul o redesigns, several relaunches and twonames, but at last

were the rst to get themagazine app right on the iPad, or atleast in part. Each page is redesignedor the new ormat, and though it’sentirely dependent on PNG tiles with aew interactive elements thrown in ontop, publisher Condé Nast made a goodstep in the right direction. We always expected our competi-tion instead to come rom trendsettingculture magazines like
Dazed & Con-used
. Launching their app a couple o weeks ago, however, they’ve managedto create something with even lessunctionality than a PDF viewer, withrepeated buering o the static pages.Te

app will o-er new things to the online edition;dynamic menus, exclusive audiovisualcontent, interactive eatures and aslew o other multimedia, really takingup strides at the oreront o digitalpublishing. What’s more, once the app hasound its eet, we’ll be relaunching ouronline magazine reader too, with allthe interactivity you could dream o right in your web browser.Keep your eyes peeled or moreand make sure to check out the appwhen it’s released in a matter o days.
