Good Government Task Force (GGTF)
Campaign Finance –
MYD Supports the expansion o the New York City public fnancing model to theentire state, along with lowering contribution limits, and banning contributions rom registered lobbyists.
Ethics –
MYD supports an independent Ethics Commission and the creation o “ull time” legislative posi-tions in Albany.
Rules Reform –
MYD Supports term limits, equal unding or members, and public committee hearings in Albany. Let Our Representatives Represent Us.
Redistricting –
MYD supports the implementation o an Independent Redistricting Commission as outlinedin the State Senate bill S1614A (Valesky).
Community and Social Equity (CASE)
Marriage Equality –
MYD believes that marriage is a civil right and that two consenting adults should beallowed to enter into the institution i they so choose. Only Civil Marriage can truly give gay and lesbiancouples all the protections aorded by the Federal and individual state governments and ensure equality inthe eyes o the law. As such, we support the legalization o Same Sex Marriage and the repeal o DOMA.
Economics
Balancing the State Budget –
MYD believes that New York State needs to ocus on a long-term budgetstrategy that matches increased fscal discipline with an emphasis on stimulus spending to soten theimpact o the recent recession and an improvement on our long term revenue outlook.
Diversifying the New York City Economy –
MYD believes in order to stimulate technology, alternativeenergy investments, and start-ups, we need to give incentives to Venture Capitalists and Industries topartner with Universities to grow and develop innovation. Additionally, we believe more urban developmentand building in areas outside o Manhattan will, de acto, diversiy New York’s economy.
Banking for the Unbanked –
MYD believes that New York City should support fnancial literacy programsand Community Development Credit Unions (CDCUs) in their eorts to increase access to banking or lowincome populations who are currently unbanked.
Expansion of Rail to Upstate –
MYD endorses eorts to expand New York State’s rail system and thefndings outlined in the New York State Department o Transportation’s State Rail Plan.
Job Creation Tax Credits –
MYD Supports the creation o a state level job creation tax credit; modeledater the ederal job creation tax credit and implemented under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. (http://www.epi.org/publications/entry/bp248)
Community Benets Agreements –
MYD supports the use o Community Beneft Agreements (CBA) indevelopment projects. We believe the city must increase its eorts to enorce the terms o these agree-ments or their duration.
