We know when this all began, but it’s hard to say we knew what wouldeventually happen. About 13 years ago, we decided to do a “little footballsomething”. John wrote a top 25; Lance did an NFL section. Four pageslater, A View from the Sideline was born. Little did we know that inaugural venture would turn into this. A 200+ magazine that we hope all of you get anopportunity to read. It’ll take you a few minutes to get through the wholething, but we do sincerely hope that you’ll find something you do like.We wouldn’t have gotten this done without some help from our friends...Eric Hostetter, one of our great interns at 1560 The Game, did a fantasticjob of editing our college sectionPaige Harris, one of the best artists in the area, did all of the drawings that you see in this magazine. It’s hard to encapsulate how talented she is and thehard work that she put into this for us was amazing...and she’s a wonderful wife.

The Ravens finished lastseason with a 9
!
7 record andeven found themselves in thesecond round of the AFCplayo
s, but 6 of their 7 losses were to playo
teams and
 JoeFlacco
played poorly in all butone of those losses.I think the Ravens need toshelve their ideas aboutforcing the passing game andrely heavily on the running back combination of
RaRice
and
 Willis McGahee
.Rice exploded onto the scenelast year with his ability tobreak the big plays on the ground and in the air whileMcGahee proved he is a  worthy backup. With
Anquan Boldin
at wideout,Flacco has a target that he cancount on all over the field. The Ravens defense wasuncharacteristically shaky tostart the season but the oldstop unit returned to relativeform by November. TheRavens have the same ferocity up front with
Kelly Gregg
,
Haloti Ngata
and
RaLewis
leading the troops, butthere is no denying that theRavens secondary is a majorconcern headed into thisseason.Safety
Ed Reed
is coming o
of reconstructive hip surgery and considered himself at “35
#
healthy”. If he isn’t ready to go, the Ravens will be introuble since CBs
Fabian  Washington
and
Ladarius Webb
both tore their ACLslast season and may not beready to go when the seasonstarts. The pass rush and the‘O’ may have to carry the day.

We’ve seen drastic swings in the Ravens’ spreadrecord over 3 years. In 2007, the Ravens were just3
!
13 ATS but then bounced back with a 12
!
4 ATSrecord in 2008. In 2009, things evened out with theRavens going 8
!
7
!
1. With the addition of Anquan Boldin Iexpect fans to jump out on the Ravens quickly but they could geto
to a rocky start. Be ready to back them by week 5.

 This battle between
EdDickson
and
Dennis Pitta
probably won’t excite mostfootball fans around thecountry, but it bears watching. Both of the rookie tight ends will be battling to backup
Todd Heap
to get snaps thisseason. The winner of thebattle could be replacing Heapon a full
!
time basis soonerthan you think.
