As usual everything is last minute here as I gather receiptsand reports, discuss last minute details and wrap up finaldecisions. There is a saying “What to do-this is Nepal”As I make my way around the business part of the cityfinishing my last errands, I’m in my own little world whensuddenly I’m face to face with an opportunity in front of mesimilar to one I missed last night. Before going to sleep I asked the Lord to forgive me for notdoing what the Holy Spirit prompted me to do. We had justfinished dinner in the tourist area and we were loading up thevehicle to head back to the hotel, when out of nowhere ayoung man appears and starts wiping down the windows of the van. He wanted some money, a not unusual request, as tomany kids on the streets here, money is for buying drugs.Instead of giving the kids money to buy drugs, I like to buythem something to eat. Even when you buy them somethingto eat you must make sure to tear open the package so thatthey cannot resell the product and purchase drugs with themoney. There was something different about this young man.I sensed in my heart that he had not been hardened by streetlife. I felt compassion for him, which I now realize was thelove of God. I didn’t act fast enough, rationalizing in mymind why I shouldn’t hold everyone else up while I ran off totry to find food for him. Pretty lame excuse-but it workedtemporarily. As we drove off I realized I had just missedanother opportunity that God put in front of me.So in my final hours in Nepal, I’m once again face-to-facewith an opportunity to minister to another street kid. As Iwalked past him he and I immediately met eye to eye. He wasbarefoot, filthy dirty, looked like he had not bathed in weeks, his hair was wild and greasy, and his clothes were much toobig for him. But here in front of me is a person created in theimage of God. He wanted money but instead I offered himfood and led him to a small alleyway tea shop. They hadfresh bread and were making hot Nepali tea. I picked outsome bread for him and in the process another boy walkedup-this one not so dirty, nicer smile and I could see he seemednew to street life. His heart seemed pliable.I bought food and hot tea for both of them and gladly paidthe shopkeeper. I sent up a quick prayer that God wouldtouch their lives and that they would see their need of theSavior, repent of their sins and trust Jesus Christ as their Lordand Savior. I then went back to finishing my remainingerrands, a few minutes later I passed by the same shop andthe second boy was finishing his breakfast when he smiledand thanked me. I’m thankful God gave me anotheropportunity to reach out to the street kids.As a young missionary girl from Canada whom we met onthe trip said, “God doesn’t need us, He chooses to use us.”
It’s warmer today in Kathmandu than it has been the lastcouple of days, but it is still cool in the morning. It is our last day in Nepal before heading back to Thailand. My mind is racing as the final hours are coming to a close.
JESUS SAID,“LET THE LITTLECHILDREN COME TO ME,AND DO NOTFORBID THEM;FOR OF SUCH IS THEKINGDOM OF HEAVEN.”

As we see the great needs of children around the world, weare compelled to do something to make a difference in thelives of these kids. Jesus said in the book of James that we(the Church) are to take care of widows and orphans in theiraffliction. This is why Vision for Children was started. Weare currently helping six children’s homes in Nepal, have built2 Christian schools and are looking to help a third. We areworking to buy or build another Children’s home to rescuemore kids off the streets-something that we believe is veryclose to the heart of God. The kids in the homes and schoolshave been given the Gospel and have committed their lives to Jesus Christ. The man Bishnu and his wife Muna have beenworking with street kids for over 30 years and have helpedhundreds of them during this time. One of the ladies, whohad been raised in the home, and her husband have startedanother Children’s home and now they have eleven Childrenin their home. Another daughter is married and her husband, who she witnessed to in school, now has a prison ministryand is actively sharing the Gospel in the prisons in Nepal.
