at Hollywood and Vine long enough and you'll
meet everyone you know.” As you have only 30
minutes here, don't try it now, Just tuen right on
Vine and the street is lined for a full block with
nown movie night spots, “It” Cafe, ‘The
another Brown Derby, etc. After you have
4m entrance or two, saunter south to Sunset
Boulevard. The southwest corner of Sunset and
Vine gives you a good angle on the NBC studio.
One block east on Sunset is Earl Carroll's, Across

For decades, pictures at the
OSTRICH AND ALLIGATOR FARMS have been
“musts” for Southern California visitors. If you,
too, want them, stroll 2 blocks east to Broadway
and take northbound No. 9 car, marked Lincoln
Park Boulevard, to the end of the line. Prices for
service men: Ostrich farm, 11¢s alligator farm,

a picture,
Now back to town. This time take an “O" ear
to Sunset Boulevard. Half a block east is Olvera
street, colorful Mexican market place. Its site is
the birthplace of Los Angeles. This bit of “old
world” life abounds with pictures!
Half a block northwest of Olvera Street on Main
street is New China City, one of the city’s three
Chinatowns. Best pictures on Dragon Road and
other streets can be taken in afternoon, For these
two colorful foreign quarters, allow at least 1%
hours of picture taking.

A DOWNTOWN SHOT If you'd like an unusual
downtown shot for a warmup, try Pershing Square,
a green leafy island surrouncied by tall buildings
From Visitors Bureau walk east. (left) to first
comer (Olive Strect). Look northeast up diagonal
pathway. There's a nice shot of the park and trees
with the high tower of the Title Guarantee Build
ing adding an inspiring note.
Now walk south on Olive to 7th Street, Board
westbound car—S or R or H (Letters are on top
of street car above front entrance.) Get off at
‘Alvarado street and there before you is:
MacARTHUR PARK Herc you can pick and
choose your subjects. Try one of the lake with its
joyriding: boats from the corner of 7th and Alva-
ado Streets with the graceful Elks ‘Temple for a
background, From the same spot there's a closeup
of ducks and geese. Sec how many you can get in
‘one picture! Good pictures can be taken all day
but if you allow more than 30 minutes, you'll be
short on time at the end of the tour. Wind up your
visit on the west side of the park at Wilshire
Boulevard and Parkview Avenuc. You can walk
the seven blocks west along Wilshire boulevard to
the next main pieture stop.

AMBASSADOR HOTEL and BROWN DERBY
Allow 15 minutes here, For she best view of the
hotel, short from middle of Boulevard. Watch out
for cars. Then walk west on the south side of Wit
shire to the hotel drive-in entrance for a front view
shot of the original BROWN DERBY, rendezvous
‘of movie people. Board westbound Wilshire local
bus to Carson Street. To your right are:
LA BREA TAR PITS AND HANCOCK PARK
Spend ct least 20 minutes here for this is one of
the strangest spots on earth. Millions of years ago
prehistoric animals Rocked here to their death in
the unfathomable pools of tar. Skeletons of the
Saber-tooth Tiger, Imperial Elephant, Giant Bear
and other beasts and birds have been recovered by
scientists. Lifesized statues of the Tiger, Short-
faced Bear, Ground Sloths horder the pits. They
make excellent and unusual pictures, particularly
if you pose someone alongside them. for compari-
son. Step out on Wilshire boulevard again, walk
west to Fairfax and take westbound bus (marked
Westwood & Crescent Heights) to junction with
Santa Monica Boulevard. You are in Beverly Hills,
Stop off for 30 minutes for pictures of
MOVIE HOMBS Cross Santa Monica Boulevard
walk right to Walden Drive, turn left to 516
Walden Dr. This is the WITCH'S HOUSE. It-was
built for a movie set. A good angle can be taken
from the street. At 710 is Walter Pidgeon's home.

walk seven blocks east to Pacific Electric Station at
Canon Drive. Take Hollywood Boulevard car to
North Orange Drive. There across the strect is:

negative. In the forecourt arc the famous cement
blocks, bearing the imprints of the feet of many
stars—Rita Hayworth, Talmadge sisters, Gloria
Swanson, Loretta Young, Joan Crawford, Sonja
Henic, Fred Astaire, Don Ameche and_ many
‘others, Also the imprint of one of Betty Grable’s
legs. These imprints challenge the camera fan.
