Daily Workout April 17 M.

Prakash Academy
Todays theme is TONCAS.
The obvious Necessary Condition is Also Sufficient.
Prove all the results stated below.
(1) In ∆ABC if AB = AC then altitudes drawn from B, C are
congruent.
(1*) In ∆ABC if altitudes drawn from B, C are congruent then
AB = AC.
Remark: Replace the word altitude in above problem by word (i)
median (ii) angle bisector.
(2) In 2ABCD, AB k CD. Let M, N be the midpoints of AD, BC
respectively. Then M N = 12 (AB + CD).
(2*) In 2ABCD, M, N be the midpoints of AD, BC respectively.
If M N = 12 (AB + CD), then AB k CD.
(3) In 2ABCD, AB k CD. Let M, N be the midpoints of AC, BD
respectively. Then M N = 12 |AB − CD|.
(3*) In 2ABCD, M, N be the midpoints of AC, BD respectively.
If M N = 12 |AB − CD|, then AB k CD.
(4) AD is the median of triangle ∆ABC.
M, N are points on AB, AC respectively. AD ∩ M N = {K}.
If M N k BC then M K = KN.
(4*) AD is the median of triangle ∆ABC.
M, N are points on AB, AC respectively. AD ∩ M N = {K}.
If M K = KN then M N k BC.
(5) In ∆ABC AD and BE are medians. If ∆ABC is an equi-
lateral triangle then m∠DAC = m∠EBC = 30.
(5*) In ∆ABC AD and BE are medians. If m∠DAC =
m∠EBC = 30 then ∆ABC is an equilateral triangle.
What next? There are several statements which are known
to us but their converse statements have not been analysed.
Here is a Creaive Exercise for you. Find one such pair on
your own. Send this result to me. I will include it as an
exercise in the subsequent daily workouts. Of course your
authorship will be clearly stated. I am sure that I will re-
ceive number of interesting TONCAS pairs.
